Armed homeowner foils home invasion

Crooks who merely want to steal stuff from a house, usually wait till the house is unoccupied. Sounds like this bunch had other plans.

If the homeowner hadn't had a gun of his own, do you suppose the girl would be dead by now? Or merely raped a few times? It's even possible that they would have simply slipped the rings off her fingers and taken her purse. Maybe.

Or would the crooks have courteously allowed the homeowner to call 911 so the cops could handle it?

Two Campbell County men toting a pellet gun picked the wrong house to rob Tuesday night when the homeowner grabbed a pistol and opened fire, authorities said. "They brought a BB gun to a real gunfight," LaFollette Police Department Detective Jeff Allen said.

Paul Lee Bourff was in stable condition Wednesday night at the University of Tennessee Medical centre in Knoxville. Police said Charles Green shot him in the chest as Bourff and Robert Wayne Evans, 24, held Green's girlfriend at gunpoint in his living room at 905 E. Hemlock St. in LaFollette.

The pair knocked at Green's door around 7:45 p.m., said Allen, the detective. His girlfriend, Sonya Dople, answered the door.

"When she opened the door, they stuck the gun up to her forehead," Allen said. "They came inside and told her to get on the floor."

Green stepped into the living room, and Bourff pointed the pellet gun at him, the detective said. Green grabbed a real gun - a .38 pistol - from under a table and pulled the trigger, Allen said.

The men ran down the street to a neighbor's home and asked for help, police said. An ambulance carried Bourff to the hospital, and a helicopter airlifted him to UT Medical centre.

Police took Evans to jail, where he remained Wednesday night. Evans and Bourff face charges of attempted aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary and two counts of aggravated assault, police said.

Green won't be charged in the shooting.

[That last sentence is the best news of all. Finally a little common sense prevails -LA]

If the liberals had their way, Mr. Green would have been just another defenseless victim -- and the liberals would use his victimhood as another example as to why we need more gun control.

And, according to Coffeesaint, Mr. Green should be hated.

I wonder if the guy that got shot in the chest will now sue the homeowner, and if so, if a jury will actually be stupid enough to give him money...

I think in Arkansas, that the law is that if someone is breaking into your house, or already has, you can use lethal force... regardless...

There was a homeowner who shot someone going through his window, from the outside, the homeowner was in his yard and shot the guy going through his window and he wasn't charged...

Most places, having the gun pointed at you, such as it was, is more than enough to justify deady force -- and if its NOT enough, I have to wonder what is.

Ive never really commented on gun control as im from the uk and we dont allow hand guns and have very strict gun control not even armed police except speclist emergency units. However the situation is different to America where im no expert on the subject but it must be virtually impossible for criminals not to get guns.Obvously i think it would be better if no civilians had guns but thats just wishful thinking.

I would like to know though how common it is for people to shoot there partners in America?

There is no reason to charge a person whom is merely defending their property. While I know there are some whom disagree, we do have the fundamental and innate right to defend liberty and property from assault; be that assault from an individual or the government.

Yes, there are a few liberals out of the whole that want to get rid of guns completely, but as a majority liberals do not want to get rid of guns, they are for gun control laws where people have to register their weapons. You may disagree with that liberal stance of gun control laws, but to say the majority want to get rid of guns altogether is dishonest in the very least.

given that almost all the groups that want to ban guns pretend that is not their goal publicly (yet have all been caught admitting that they need to use an incremental approach) I don't buy that.

IF YOU HAVE DECIDED that some gun control will stop some crime (it doesn't and by gun control I mean limiting possession of guns-to all people rather than penalize criminals or criminal misuse of weapons) IT IS RATHER EASY for you to decide or be convinced that MORE gun control will result in even MORE increases in public safety.

Sarah Brady PROMISED that all she wanted was background checks and waiting periods. Soon after she decided that we needed bans on certain types of guns. Then she supported the complete handgun bans in chicago, DC and other cities. Then she supported the one gun a month rule in VA, then she said that the AWB didn't go far enough-a ten round magazine limit should become a 6 round etc

this is true with just about every liberal gun control advocate

This is yet another reason why we should preserve our Gun rights in the USA. The second amendment is there for a reason and this is one of them. Mr. Green did the right thing and should be counted as a hero.

As a Democrat, I believe that every American who is a law abiding citizen should have the unabridged right to own a firearm as guarenteed by the second amendment. I do not agree with TurtleDude and other conservatives on some issues but this one I am with them 100%.

No, but the wait period DOES prevent people from committing crimes in the heat of passion. For instance my Aunt caught my Uncle Cheating and the first thing that came to her mind was to go buy a gun and shoot his head off. Due to the fact there was a waiting period she calmed down and then realized that should would get most of what he owned because she had a prenup.

I see no problem with waiting periods to do felony checks or in my Aunt's case, have a cooling off period.

Yes, I do recognize that the waiting period to "cool down" is not the intended reason, but to do felony checks, but in this case it did.

I take it you are for unlimited buying guns and any type of guns as well as someone with a felony since you seem to not be for gun control laws from what you wrote. If that is not the case, please state what gun control laws you are for.

Funny how no study established that. If you are mad-run to the gun store, pay for a gun, fill out the form and then go back and shoot someone every criminal psychologist will testify you were not in the heat of passion. The NEJM did a study on the Brady law and all they could find as a positive was slight decreases of suicide by the terminally ill and very elderly.

No decrease in "heat of passion" crimes because of what I stated above

gun laws-I have no problem with a BG C since that doesn't impose any burdens on law abiding citizens as long as the BG Check is instant. It also cannot be used to facilitate confiscation of weapons since the weapon is not listed when the BG C is done

"I can't believe I caught him cheating. I should kill him. Oh, crap, but there's a waiting period on guns. Lets see-your first scenario is destroyed as unrealistic and contrary to reality so you come back with this retort? Its the NRA and conservative groups who pushed for tough sentencing of felons using guns in crime. Its conservatives who pushed for enhancement of "relevant conduct" points in the federal sentencing guidelines (enacted under Reagan) for those using guns in crimes. Its the NRA and like minded people who pushed for project exile where felons using guns were sent to federal courts.

If you want cities where the only people who have guns in criminal encounters are the criminals thank liberals-they run cities like DC and Chicago where honest people are disarmed
