Arizona's novel solution to teacher benefits...

A 2 teacher household in AZ makes a median household income of ~$106,000, which is considerably above the national average.
Wow, thats a weird comment. Apples to oranges. Most 2 teacher households in the US earn far more than the same in AZ.

Yeah, I'm more talking about teachers who take a job and then complain about the pay.
After the crash in 08, AZ teachers agreed to take cuts/hold off on raises for a couple of years until the state recovered. They were not fully compensated for this. in 2019 the "Red for Ed" protests began, which got the legislature to start initiating funding increases for AZ schools, minor increases in pay. But in the meantime:

Since 2016, approximately a quarter of teacher vacancies remained unfilled a month into each school year. Meanwhile, there has been a continued increase in teacher vacancies being filled by individuals through various alternative pathways asthey did not meet the standard teacher requirements. While providing career change opportunities has plenty of advantages, Arizona continues to not address the reasons our young adults are not entering the education field.

The Arizona School Personnel Administrators Association found in January (2023) that 31% of teacher vacancies remain unfilled and 47.7% of vacancies are filled by teachers who don’t meet the state’s standard certification requirements.

So yeah, a lot of people have rejected the low pay that often requires a Masters degree and a shit ton of hours outside of the classroom filing out progress reports for the district, let alone grading homework.

Arguing teachers are dumb to accept the low pay is not a solution.
