Arizona finds that 100,000 Republicans illegally registered

So the STATE lost the records of them proving citizenship and the solution is to disenfranchise them?

Without evidence of satisfactory proof of citizenship, they should not be allowed to vote on statewide, legislative and local candidates as well as on ballot propositions, he said.

"Democratic Secretary of State Adrian Fontes intends to file legal papers Wednesday proposing that they all be allowed to vote in all elections. He said there is no reason to believe that virtually all of these people, many of whom have been voting for years, are not citizens — even if the paperwork is missing."


I think this is a good example of the difference between Republicans and Democrats in positions of authority. Paxton would be doing everything he can to ensure his opposition could not vote.

If things were reversed the GOP would wipe them from the rolls and not even contact them as they did in FL. Different reason but same idea.

There is a perfectly logical reason why these people can't prove they are citizens entitled to vote: The state lost their records!

Now the GOP has another great strategy for suppressing the vote. Lose the registration records. Easy peazy!

It was obviously a conspiracy to disenfranchise Democrat voters by illegally registering Republicans. Now that it's been discovered, conveniently enough just before the 2024 election, we can make sure than none of these Republicans are allowed to vote. It's the only way to save democracy.

Word is that they will only be allowed to cast a federal ballot and WILL NOT be allowed to vote for state offices. Furthermore, nobody that might be effected has thus far been notified so nobody can do anything about it. It's really a brilliant plan if you want to make sure you clear 100k likely Republican votes from the table.

I mean, seriously, this "glitch", like ALL the other election related "glitches" negatively impacts Republicans. What a ****ing coincidence!!!

Luther, help me out bud... I"m not sure I'm understanding the issue. It would appear that this "glitch" happened under the watchful eye of Repbulicans, who have been in power since 2009.

Yet it appears you feel that Republicans are being victimized.

While I agree this entirely unacceptable, the whole "What a ****ing coincidence" thing speaks to some notion of a conspiracy. So, Republicans are being thwarted by Republicans?

Sorry, I'm a little wobbly due to cold meds and I'm not connecting the dots. What's your assertion here?

Tens of thousands of Arizonans, maybe more, have been voting in state and local elections without first proving that they are U.S. citizens.

Turns out, 97,000 people are on Arizona’s voter rolls, deemed eligible to vote in state, legislative and city elections even though they haven’t provided documented proof of their U.S. citizenship, as required by state law.

Many of them, by the way, are … wait for it … Republicans. People who have been voting in our elections for years.
Before the election integrity hounds spin themselves up, there is no dastardly conspiracy here. No evidence that 97,000 sneaky non-citizens have been hijacking our elections.

These are voters who were miscategorized on the rolls because of a coding glitch in the state’s motor vehicle database, a glitch that dates back two decades.

The problem lies with people who got a regular Arizona driver’s license before October 1996, when the state began requiring proof of citizenship. Then they got a replacement license — either because they’d lost their original one or needed to update an address — after 2004.

Unbeknownst to elections officials, the MVD coded that replacement license with the later issuance date, even though the citizenship requirement had not been met.

We, the state, lost your records. We understand you've voted for decades but you need to prove you are actually you instead of we the state finding out for ourselves. Republican rules, they punish people. This is what I mean when I say, republicans don't govern, they rule, against the will of the majority of people.

Is it really a coincidence considering the bill was a Republican idea in their infinite wisdom that sees into the future?

In 1996, under a GOP administration, there was a law passed that citizenship had to be proved in order to get an AZ driver's license. In 2005, under a Democrat administration, there was a requirement to prove citizenship to vote. The current issue is that people who got their license BEFORE 1996 were simply presumed to be in compliance with the citizenship requirement.

The issue TODAY is that, having discovered this discrepancy for ONE person, the administration is considering restricting the vote for ALL people that had this issue AND they are branding it as a problem caused by Republicans and one that impacts, primarily, Republicans. They are, furthermore, choosing to "fix" the problem just before the 2024 election thus, in all probability, disenfranchising nearly 100k voters.

There is a simple solution to this, just require everyone to provide proof of citizenship when they cast a ballot. Do it for everybody.
