One of the accused students, a girl, was allegedly in a "relationship" with the victim who had cheated on her, according to the Surprise Police Department.

Through the investigation, it was found that one of the accused students, a girl, was allegedly in a "relationship" with the victim, a boy, who had cheated on her, according to the report. The girl hated him and wanted him dead, the report said.

You're 10. What did he do; share his PB&J with another girl?

A third student said conversations about allegedly plotting to kill the student made her uncomfortable, but she ultimately thought her fellow students were joking, according to the report. When she was assigned the role of guard, she realized "they were serious," she said.

Three students and their families showed remorse and the students apologized, according to the report. A fourth student and her parent did not appear to be fazed and the student "would smile and laugh and made excuses for the actions," the report said.

Better keep an eye on that one.

I’m reticent to use the phrase “kids these days”…but I truly think people don’t realize how mature in some ways “kids” are at younger and younger ages now vs. when even I was a kid.

Certainly a different planet from when I was 10 for sure. Then it was just a note saying "do you like me? Yes/no"

And work your 2-3 jobs just to afford housing, electric, water, and groceries. Coming up with the time to watch 'everything' is next to impossible and still get sleep and downtime. I really don't think I could parent as well in 2025 as I did 20 years ago.

I agree.

. It is why I am no longer in the workforce full time since my son was born.

Luckily, my husband and I are in a position where I don’t *have* to be.

I appreciate that privilege.


Families are really struggling to keep up with it all - and they’re tired. Something needs to give.

My daughter was in the 8th grade back in 2002 when she became aware of a list circulating among her classmates titled "People who need to die." Her name was on the list.

Needless to say, when her parents (my wife and I) became aware, we jumped right on it. It turns out the student who originated the list was the son of one of the teachers at the school. It was nothing but juvenile nonsense, but we can't assume anything these days.

Problem is that there is no such thing as 'juvenile nonsense' if you happen to be the juvenile targeted. Nothing feels as temporary to a kid, as we adults know it to be. Juvenile bullying is actually more cruel, more effective, because the victims have no real sense of time, no concept of 'phases'. They cannot choose unilaterally, to quit a job, leave school, or move out of a neighborhood or file a defamation lawsuit on their own. They feel far more impotent.
