Are You OK With A Racist President, Republicans?
The result is that the Republican Party is firmly Donald Trump’s party now. It’s the party where insults and other ugliness are just being “rough around the edges.” It’s the party where locking legal migrants in crowded, unhealthy cages is acceptable immigration policy. It’s the party where it’s OK to say racist things so long as the next jobs report is encouraging.
“Go back where you came from” is among the worst of racist tropes. It divides us by ethnicity and skin color. It says that even if someone is a citizen or legal immigrant, they are not part of the rest of us. That runs contrary to who we should be as Americans, and if Donald Trump didn’t know it when he typed the words, he surely did later when people responded with appropriate outrage. But the same president who referred to Haiti and African nations as “****hole countries” and said African visitors would never “go back to their huts” once again doubled down on his racism.

Of course, being a racist was one of Obama's failings. That's one of the reasons I didn't like the guy.

If you're a birther or have ever touted the birther rhetoric and subscribed to the birther conspiracy theories, you're racist. No ifs, buts, or maybes.
There is no logical reason for anyone to continually refuse to accept factual evidence that Obama is a natural born citizen of the US.
He said they should "go back" to the "totally broken and crime infested places from which they came."
The four women he’s referring to are actually citizens of the United States. Three of the four were born there.
How can anyone be ok with his statements?
He's just repulsive. Along with those supporters of his that will continue to defend him at all costs as no bar is too low for them.

I’m sure there have been many a Democrat and probably Republicans that told Trump to go back where he came from.
Most republicans feel like they have to be okay with it. They have to wait him out, while supporting his pro corporate regressive, anti regulatory, anti environment policies That they feel warmly blessed by. There is a sizable minority of republicans with white nationalist sentiments, who feel warmly blessed by his racism.Just wonderin'.
Feigning ignorance of the racial implications of "go back where you came from" is barely a step up from actually being ignorant.
I don't know if Trump is a racist or not.
I do know that simply declaring that he is one does not make it true.
This is the problem I have with so many people who use the tactics of moral panic.
First they declare that they hold the moral high ground. Then they use this moral high ground to "judge" those they disagree with. They then declare those they judge to be enemies of their ideologies guilty of some form of immorality. Finally they liberally apply one or more demonizing labels by fiat.
The next step is to continue to use such labels against both their main target, and anyone who dares to side with that target.
From that point on it is one ad hominin after another, and their "truth" is reinforced by those who seek inclusion (and thereby safety from being targeted) in their echo chambers of denigration.
So while I don't know if Trump is a racist or not, I need to repeat that constant declarations that he is one still doesn't make it true. :coffeepap:

Are you making a distinction between white nationalism, which what Trump did clearly reflected, was intended to appeal to white nationalists, versus racism?
There is obviously a difference in the dictionary meaning, but not much in real life I don't think - the Venn diagram of racists, white supremacists, racial or ethnic bigots and white nationalists wouldn't be overlapping but close enough such that the distinction won't be very informative.

The white nationalists, those who claim the label, didn't miss the message he sent. And a bunch of conservatives who aren't Trump lemmings heard the message clear as a bell as well. So you're objectively wrong that only the "collectivist left" can see an old and ugly strain of white nationalism in his Tweets that's as American as apple pie.

No matter how much I came to dislike him, I didn’t want to think that the president of the United States is a racial bigot.
But Sunday left no doubt. Naivete, resentment and outright racism, roiled in a toxic mix, have given us a racist president. Trump could have used vile slurs, including the vilest of them all, and the intent and effect would have been no less clear. Telling four non-white members of Congress — American citizens all, three natural-born — to “go back” to the “countries” they “originally came from”? That’s racist to the core. It doesn’t matter what these representatives are for or against — and there’s plenty to criticize them for — it’s beyond the bounds of human decency. For anyone, not least a president.
What’s just as bad, though, is the virtual silence from Republican leaders and officeholders.
