The "what about" response is non stop deflection and abdication of accountability.

A criminal background disqualifies individuals from passing background checks required for many jobs - especially in government.

Typically permanently.

So the bigger problem is that we have a POTUS that couldn’t legitimately pass a government background check.

Yet he was elected twice, revealing severe faults in how we make these determinations. I would argue, effectively, that the cult from the left failed to prevent the cult from the right in electing Trump twice primarily because of terrible and very arrogant candidates he faced. Making the background check argument largely moot.
