When Trump won in 2024, many Trump supporters immediately declared we were in the golden age. I myself have satirically used this phrasing to remind people of this claim.

Less than a year after Trump's victory, I want to gage the temperature of things politically and ask : Are we in the golden age?

What say the good folks of DP?

😁

Compared to where you were 10, 20, 100 years ago? Most certainly.

Compared to other advanced countries? Nope.

Lol no, though much of this age was orchestrated by grifters and fraud. All they needed to say is they are anti establishment and rubes will believe them.

There are no golden ages. Just some new stuff, and lots of the same, year on year, til the reaper scythes everything.

Lol

We are in a cess pool at present.

Good effort, Allan, but this is more about wether we are in the golden age because Trump was elected and made everything better.

Dementia Don declared at his inauguration that the "golden age of America begins right now".
That was January 20th.
Four months ago.
Usually, that phrase means really great things are happening.
I don't see any great things happening for America.
Trump appears to be grifting his way to more billions via his crypto scam. Great for him.
He also appears to be getting away with his cool new jet for a terrorist sponsor, although that may face some serious hurdles. Like the Constitution.
Some of his sleazy criminal friends are happier, getting pardons for their criminal convictions. Great for them.
But America?
Nah. This is not great.
Our allies don't trust us, our enemies laugh at us. and we are very likely headed for a recession due to stupid on/off tariffs and other threats to global trade.
America companies have to deal with the constant flip-flops and knee-jerk policy ideas of a manic, addled old man.
No, this is no golden age.
But things will undoubtedly improve once he is gone.

It fits literally and figuratively

Trump loves his golden showers, and the American people certainly are being pissed on

Cause we all know Musk needs a tax break more than little Jon needs health coverage

To a first-order approximation, this is the best moment to be alive in all of human history so far.

One can debate whether that's a "golden age". But there's no other historical era in which I'd rather live.

Stelliferous age.

A 'Golden Age' of political graft and corruption? Most certainly.

Well, if you consider the percentage of Americans who still believe Trump won the 2020 election, that vaccines are more harmful than Covid, who believe Obama wasn't born in the US and that Michelle is really a man, and considering the percentage of Americans who absolutely adore Trump and will NOT abide any criticism of Trump, I would say................

America has reached the Golden Age of Stupidity.

That's kind of what I said. But the OP doesn't allow a nuanced response.

Hardly. Wealth inequality is growing like crazy. It's massive wealth for a few and the rest share the scraps.

Actually, we are in serious danger of entering a dark age where knowledge is rejected and stupidity is popularized.

That's because the Powell Memo advised the rich and powerful to shape public opinion in rejection of facts in order to divide the nation. - A divided nation makes it easier for oligarchs to maintain control over government. Specifically, they get people to vote Republican based on wedge issues that are not really all that important to the running of the country. Wedge issues such as: immigration, government resentment, rejection of diversity, etc. Meanwhile the robber barons are bleeding the country, not paying enough taxes, and running education into the ground. Because a smart populace would realize they are being had.

This has been made possible because the fossil fuel industry got a following to reject the fact that climate change is happening and it is human-caused. That is no wedge issue but a very real major concern for the whole planet. It is so scary that denial has become a popular reaction. Political operatives realized if right wingers will deny this, they will deny lots of other "inconvenient truths." (such as the usefulness of vaccines.)

Now it is to the point that going to college and learning more, achieving a higher education, is foolishly mocked by the American right.

Yeah, kinda, sorta.

We are in the Golden Shower Age as we are steady getting peed on non-stop by Trump, MAGA GOP, fascists, oligarchs, racists, Christian Nationalists, and an activist Supreme Court.

Hi Hatuey,

You notice too that not one has had the balls yet to claim this is 'The Golden Age'? Lol.

Good one to throw the question back at them again at timely intervals.

Soon and we will stay that way until a democrat will be elected president and screws it up. Again!!
