The Senate is already ruled by the minority states. Depending on whether they swing toward the Dems or the GOP, the Senate is a minority institution. Now with voter suppression rules in elections and gerrymandering districts for both the Federal and state governments, a minority of voters are running state legislatures and will run the federal House. So will this country be ruled by a minority of its citizens in the future?

Not if people keep fleeing blue states that they destroyed by voting for democrats,.

We're already there. Look at the Court. Look at the Senate. Look at what state legislatures are doing.

People are moving for economic reasons and are taking their politics with them. If anything the migration from red to blue states will turn red Staes purple.

No they are moving because they vote against their own fiscal interests by voting for democrats. They take their pensions and run.

They ruined Detroit. They bankrupt some California cities, they bankrupt Illinois (if it was legal for states to declare bankruptcy )

Three major California cities have already declared bankruptcy, Vallejo in 2008, Stockton and San Bernardino in 2012. In October 2019, the California State Auditor's Office reported on the fiscal health of 471 California cities.Mar 18, 2020

Headed toward? We have been there since the Constitution was ratified.

Permanent? No. Could our democracy go through a bit of a rough patch for a while? Definitely.

What do you mean by "minority"?

Depending on whether they swing toward the Dems or the GOP, the Senate is a minority institution.
How so?

Now with voter suppression rules in elections
"voter suppression rules"??

How about some examples?

and gerrymandering districts for both the Federal and state governments,
shrug...

Gerrymandering works both ways...and not always for the "minority".

a minority of voters are running state legislatures and will run the federal House.
State and federal legislators still have to win their elections...you know, get a majority of votes.

So will this country be ruled by a minority of its citizens in the future?
No.

No. Minority rule cannot self-sustain. Putin's about to find that out, Saddam did, etc. You can oppress people for awhile but sooner or later, those who previously carried out your evil against your political enemies will turn on you.

So your advocating for an insurrection

No. But your guys already. actually advocated for and executed it. Good thing they failed.
How else would the majority claim rule with out violence as you suggest ? They sure can't do it with in the constitution.

The minority are the treasonous Republican insurrectionists. Because the constitution didn't support their racist, oppressive views they decided to take things into their own hands and attack us on 1/6. Tell us, Bear. Are you unhappy that the coup failed?

No, but your reply cracked me up, keep them coming :)

Demographics and life spans.. The boomer bubble is popping...

The failure to pass voting rights brought us a step closer.

Seems like this has been the case in our entire past, currently and in the future. What is the change you are concerned about.

I think we're headed for permanent independent rule in this country... well not permanent, let's call it extended. D and R are both minority parties in our country now, and independents decide who makes the decisions.

One thing seems certain. As noble a principle as the 60 vote threshold in the Senate is, nothing of significance will happen for decades. Getting to 60 Senators of one party will take multiple election cycles.

Tht is as it should be. Massive changes to this country should be hard to achieve and should require large bipartisan support.

Who are you talking about? Which republicans were part of this so called insurrection? Why do you have such difficulty making honest posts?

Lovely theory but the fact is there is no compromise, no bipartisan support on pretty much everything. Seems that has become a mortal sin.

No doubt, 'adams

The weak, treasonous republican FILTH hates democracy and must be DESTROYED in voting booths this fall and beyond...

Then nothing will get done. And thats ok too. The idea behind the US is limited federal government, not an all powerful central authority. We are a union of 50 disparate states with differnt populations, different opinions and different ways of life. It should be hard to ram a one-size-fits-all appraoch down our throats
