With a deal in sight, are Dems exposed as hypocrites?

Dems show their insincerity

Nixing a compromise was a bad move.
George F. Will OCT 14

Liberals constantly lecture, more in theatrical sorrow than in actual anger, about their eagerness to compromise with Republicans, just not with Republicans who are — liberal moderation expresses itself immoderately — hostage-taking terroristic anarchistic jihadist suicide bombers. But Maine’s Republican Sen. Susan Collins, the very model of moderation, spoiled the Democrats’ piety charade by demonstrating its insincerity when she suggested this compromise::peace

I personally would like the medical device tax repealed, and would otherwise support Susan Collins and her bill. However, I cannot condone the completely unacceptable tactics used to obtain said goal.

The fundamental law of the land is that you can't repeal legislation with only a vote from the house. Demanding so much as one red cent simply to fund the government and service our debt is completely illegitimate. The OP still fails to understand that turning a big one-sided demand into a small one-sided demand is not compromise. The precedent set for allowing a party that control a single branch of government to demand unilateral concessions by threatening the functioning of the nation is too dangerous to allow.

Poor teapartiers, still throwing a temper tantrum because ACA is law and they don't have the votes to stop it. Get over it.

By the way George Will is a persnickety jerk

Reid brought forward a bill with just the Colins provision of extending debt ceiling through the end of 2014....and could not get one GOP vote.

So much for the GOP "moderation".

PS...the House is not in favor of the Collins proposal since it gives the POTUS too much flexibility on sequester spending.

Looks like the tea partiers are going to take their adolescent tantrum against America all the way into default.

and that ignorant base has already been convinced that A default wont happen, the Treasury dept can magically just pay it and B it wont be as bad as everyone says.

And that people is why taking advantage of an ignorant base like the teaparty is not good for America or democracy.

So the franchise should be limited? Are you advocating vote suppression?

wow! and there it is again, another delusional response to something I didn't post. and very delusional at that. I clearly pointed out its irresponsible of republicans and the conservative entertainment complex to take advantage of an ignorant base like the teaparty.

I'm pretty sure you just proved my point.

I'm just trying to discover the meaning in your tangled post. Were the Tea Party members of Congress not duly elected? Are they not fulfilling their campaign promises? What, exactly, is your objection?

Why would Reid pick that one single item out of the Collins bill to vote on? Don't they ever get tired of playing games in DC?

Greetings, Gimmesometruth. :2wave:

Because the rest, negotiations on sequester spending and a change to the ACA was not agreeable to Reid.....and as I pointed out, the House GOP rejects the flexibility on sequester spending.

You would think just one provision of her bill left in tact would garner some support...if it was sincere.

Apparently it wasn't.

Oh, THAT'S funny -- Reid picks the one provision out of the Collins proposal which gives the Democrats everything they want, without the balancing provisions, and if Republicans object, it's because they're "immoderate."

That's beyond self-parody.

And according to your own link, they didn't even vote against the provision itself, but against cloture.

Agreed.

"Republicans would support a continuing resolution that funds the government for six months at the “sequester” levels of the Budget Control Act of 2011, which was produced by that year’s debt-ceiling negotiations. Republicans would also support raising the debt ceiling to enable the government to borrow enough to finance the substantial deficit spending involved in even sequester-level spending. (The sequester’s supposed severity does not come close to balancing the budget.) Republicans also would grant agencies greater flexibility in administering the sequester’s cuts.

In exchange, Collins asked for only two things. First, a mere delay, and for just two years, of Obamacare’s medical-device tax, which is so “stupid” — Sen. Harry Reid’s characterization — that bipartisan majorities in both houses of Congress favor outright repeal. Second, enforcement of income-verification criteria for those seeking Obamacare’s insurance subsidies — criteria the administration wrote but waived.":peace

Yes, without ANY GOP support, the bill could not be brought to the floor for DEBATE.

A clean bill with one provision from Collins....and the GOP stopped debate. That is "moderation"?

Umm, you apparently don't know what "cloture" is.

This is so incandescently stupid it needs no clarification. You: "Why didn't the Republicans accept a bill which gave the Democrats everything the Dems wanted and stripped out everything the Republicans wanted? They're hyperpartisans, that why!!!!"

As I pointed out Jack, the House GOP is against giving Obama flexibility on sequester spending.....and the President nor the Senate is going to allow changes on the ACA while the GOP continues to hold the US's credit hostage.

We'll never know since Reid won't let it come to a vote.

Apparently, neither do you since the bill was stopped from coming up for debate.

Inane straw, harstraw.

Cloture is a measure which ENDS DEBATE, genius.

Inane straw, harstraw.

No, it's exactly what you're saying. It does not surprise me that you don't understand this.

Sorry, but that's not good enough.
Nothing is, Jack. Once you squat...er...establish a position, you are stuck on it....no matter evidence to the contrary.

The problem is that the program is an hour in length....so you did not even listen to it.

Wouldn't matter if it were five minutes or five hours. If Reid won't allow a vote then failure is on him.
