I wonder if anyone noticed that Hot topic got rid of their emo/punk/gothic merchandise and replaced it with anime and funpops?
The stores now look like A&F or Hollister Co..
I even remember when the stores played punk/darkwave/metal and such.
I used to take my daughter there all the time, but is been about 20 years since I've been in one. I didn't even know the were still around.
Yes, the stores have turned brighter though and they don't have those big gates in front.
I don't remember gates (the one we went to was inside a mall, not a stand alone store), but I do remember the music. And lots of black clothes with metal. Posters everywhere...
I'll ask my daughter tomorrow if she remembers the gates. Seems to me like every time I was there they were already wide open and stayed that way.

What is Hot Topic?
Hollister markets to a different demographic than does A&F so all in all, I have no clue what you are talking about.
All is good though, I still like your threads.
It's a store.
They used to market to alternative music styles, like Emo and such.
I also remember that the gates were open when the store was open.
Well, I had forgotten to ask my daughter, then Helix's post reminded me. She doesn't remember gates being on the store inside the mall that I took her to. However, she does remember gates on their downtown store, which opened up to the street, not inside a mall, when she was a few years older.
Oh, so Hot Topic WAS cool at some point??I don't remember gates (the one we went to was inside a mall, not a stand alone store), but I do remember the music. And lots of black clothes with metal. Posters everywhere...

Yeah, I just re-read your post and realized I'd misinterpreted it. I thought you were saying it was catering to the "metal" genre. But apparently you were actually saying that there was lots of "metal" objects everywhere, not referring to metal music. It was with teenagers, at least.
At one point the stores used to play punk rock, metal, gothic music, emo, and screamo. But more recently they have played rap and pop.Yeah, I just re-read your post and realized I'd misinterpreted it. Give it another 6 months, and 90% of their business will be online, with little need for an actual store. So unless you specifically bring up their web page, Hot Topic will be 'out of sight, out of mind'.At one point the stores used to play punk rock, metal, gothic music, emo, and screamo. But more recently they have played rap and pop.
Ahh, good news then! There WAS some coolness to be found there!Well, metal music too.
