My niece and her husband are in the Mission Viejo area - but his parents are adjacent to the Eaton fire. Fortunately, still ok, but...Thank you, OlNate, but we are not in that area though San Diego County has had their fair share of fires in the last week. What weather! One fire came very close to a family member this morning, and had us on edge for awhile, but nothing, NOTHING like what is happening to LA county.
Pray for southern CA., this newest one just east of the Palisades fire is crazily growing in size.
That is good for the planes... the copters could ocean dip for the Malibu fires though.
As am I.There's another humongous fire that exploded in size today near Santa Clarita, CA. In a matter of hours, it went from a couple hundred acres to over 8,000 acres according to Watch Duty! You can find out more here: https://app.watchduty.org/
Our worst Santa Ana winds, catastrophic in nature, may come tomorrow. Southern CA. currently is under a red flag warning. The conditions are ripe for fires and for them to spread fast because of wind gusts and very low humidity. We are also under a high wind warning for most of southern CA. beginning tomorrow at 6 AM. (northeast winds 30-40 MPH, with wind gusts 60-75 MPH.) This is expected to last until 6 PM per the NWS.

The last link has the fire exploding to 10,000 acres but this has not been verified.
Praying for everyone's safety!
Trump and MAGA have politicized the fires and have threatened to weaponize Federal assistance to California. You mean like you just did? Good grief.
Ocean water is fine if it's a one-off. It becomes a problem when it's used regularly in the same spot. For reference, every ocean-originating tsunami ever.My understanding is that they don't use ocean water because it comes with hazards. https://www.theweathernetwork.com/e...o-douse-wildfires-los-angeles-palisades-eaton
We probably need to build more desalination plants.
These poor people. And those fighting the wildfires. How much of this can people in California take?
This fire has exploded. The winds are going to make near impossible to control. Dreadful !!
Lots of evacuations occurring now.
Not me. I think California needs to deal with these things ourselves, and not rely on bureaucrats in Congress who may not be there in our time of need. We have frequent large-scale forest fires that are only growing more deadly, and we have a persistent and serious earthquake risk across most population centers of our state. We need to invest heavily in mitigating these two hazards as much as possible.Trump and MAGA have politicized the fires and have threatened to weaponize Federal assistance to California.
That, of course, should be denounced by Americans of all political stripes, in all states.
Yeah, we're living day to day on pins and needles. Rain might occur this weekend. That would be a blessing, but also a devil in disguise for fire ravaged areas in the way of mudslides. At the same time, it might point to this weird weather cycle ending. My niece and her husband are in the Mission Viejo area - but his parents are adjacent to the Eaton fire. Thank you. Good thoughts and prayers for your niece and her husband, and their extended family.Hope y'all stay safe...
Climate change - real name, global warming - is indeed a factor. You mean like blaming climate change?
As am I.
AGW is real, but more importantly, it's unavoidable now. Our world is too divided to ever accomplish something like the Montreal Protocol now (good thing we discovered the ozone hole in the 1980s rather than today...) so I think we just need to except the reality of runaway global warming. The good news is that we can predict most of the impacts on our state and begin working now to prepare for them, and our state is enough of an economic and industrial powerhouse that we can probably find ways to take care of ourselves.Climate change - real name, global warming - is indeed a factor.
Right now, though, the concern is the safety and well-being of everyone involved with or vulnerable to the fires.
The pins and needles of anticipation are almost as bad as the real thing.Yeah, we're living day to day on pins and needles. Rain might occur this weekend. No, I responded to @EdwinWillers' Post #25.You're politicizing this thread right now.
If you want to do that, please start your own thread.
We saw blurbs about the Hughes fire on the large-screen TV at a restaurant (4 hours ago). This nightmarish video was from four hours ago. Can you possibly imagine?
The worst of the weather has yet to come. God, please hear our prayers.
Local news here in Colorado had a camera truck set up above the Marshall fire 3 years ago. I watched the fire literally travel over a mile in a matter of a minute or so under the high winds. I've never seen anything like it.This nightmarish video was from four hours ago. Can you possibly imagine?
