Back in May, Trump signed some executive order that was supposed to provide better care for veterans.

“Under President Trump, VA is implementing a host of important reforms to improve
care and benefits for our nation’s heroes,” said VA Secretary Doug Collins. “This
executive order builds on the progress we’ve made so far and puts us on a path to
fixing some of the department’s most vexing problems.

Results thus far? Worse care for veterans.

The independent watchdog for the Department of Veterans Affairs said the department’s
health system is facing a severe staffing shortage of clinical and nonclinical workers that
has worsened since last year — at the same time the department has shed tens of
thousands of workers and recruited fewer medical workers.

The inspector general’s office released its annual report Tuesday, revealing the extent of
staffing shortages that have plagued the department for years and have worsened this
year. All of the Veterans Health Administration’s 139 medical center campuses reported
lacking workers, and reports of severe shortages for specific jobs increased 50 percent
from the previous fiscal year.

However, the survey of the medical centers, which was completed in April, did not fully
capture the extent to which the Trump administration has reduced VA’s workforce. Many
of the workers who took the latest buyout offer left after the survey was completed.

Not only are VA medical centers severely understaffed due to DOGE and other workforce cuts, but healthcare professionals simply do not want to work for this administration. And it makes sense, because the only field that is really hiring right now is healthcare. Why work for this lunatic when there are better jobs out there?

Many job applicants are turning down offers, worried that the positions are not stable
and uneasy with the overall direction of the agency, according to internal documents
examined by ProPublica. The records show nearly 4 in 10 of the roughly 2,000 doctors
offered jobs from January through March of this year turned them down. That is
quadruple the rate of doctors rejecting offers during the same time period last year.

The VA in March said it intended to cut its workforce by at least 70,000 people. The
news sparked alarm that the cuts would hurt patient care, prompting public reassurances
from VA Secretary Doug Collins that front-line health care staff would be immune from
the proposed layoffs.

Last month, department officials updated their plans and said they would reduce the
workforce by 30,000 by the end of the fiscal year, which is Sept. 30. So many staffers
had left voluntarily, the agency said in a press release, that mass layoffs would not be necessary.

The report hardly covers any of Trump's second term. It points mostly to a continuing decline under Biden. Healthcare professionals simply did not want to work for that administration. Who could blame them?

And why is anyone surprised?

Senators blast Biden administration’s staffing plans for veterans’ health care

The top two senators on the Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs called the Biden administration’s plan to reduce veterans’ health care staffing a “mess” that could undercut the timing and quality of care.

In a letter sent to Secretary of Veterans Affairs Denis McDonough Monday, Sen. Jon Tester, a Montana Democrat, and Sen. Jerry Moran, a Kansas Republican, demanded to know why the VA has paused hiring and planned to cut 10,000 full-time jobs despite veterans across the nation experiencing long wait times for care.

Please try to be more honest. All of these links are for this year.

Literally the only promises he has fulfilled are those related to Project 2025 and revenge against his enemies.

You didn't actually look at the report, did you? The data collection was done in March/April. This is a dismal bookend to Biden's dismal handling of the VA.

Thanks for bringing it to our attention, though you spelled "Biden' wrong in the thread title.

If there are staffing shortages at the VA, I certainly have not seen them. While I cannot necessarily speak for every location, I have been enrolled in VA Healthcare since 2013. And since 2016, I have seen vast improvement. Wait times are down significantly and our center was recently rebuilt from the ground up. The Community Care option that is part of the Mission Act, Trump signed into law is one reason the wait times are down and less staff is needed. There is also that AI has eliminated the need for many administrative positions.. I get all of my routine care at the VA locally and get oncology services in the private sector through Community Care. All I need is a consult from the VA and that is good for a year at a time. I can also walk into any urgent care center or hospital and get treatment on the VA dime. I think there may be some political gaslighting going on.

Just wait until the GOP Big Ugly Bill cutbacks come into full force.

On the news yesterday I watched as a California GOP Representative held a Town Hall.

He got his ass kicked over, under, sideways, and down. Mike Johnson then ordered Republicans to not hold any Town Halls.

Here it is.....

Then why hasn't Trump fixed it, especially since he said he would take steps to improve Veterans care? He's had 8 months to do something.

"When [public employees] wake up in the morning, we want them to not want to go to work, because they are increasingly viewed as the villains … We want to put them in trauma.”

Can’t believe these guys are having trouble recovering from the unnecessary mass layoffs. Very unexpected.
