Andy Griffith Predicts Trump

another Hollywood loony

George Washington did, as well.

The alternate domination of one faction over another, sharpened by the spirit of revenge, natural to party dissension, which in different ages and countries has perpetrated the most horrid enormities, is itself a frightful despotism. But this leads at length to a more formal and permanent despotism. The disorders and miseries which result gradually incline the minds of men to seek security and repose in the absolute power of an individual; and sooner or later the chief of some prevailing faction, more able or more fortunate than his competitors, turns this disposition to the purposes of his own elevation, on the ruins of public liberty.

LOL, watch the movie. It paralles Trump to a ... T ... Trump Is Lonesome Roads.

1:32 worth your time.

Of anybody has not yet seen A FACE IN THE CROWD you should make it a high priority. Andy Griffith is excellent and it is the role of his life.

I would also add a film from Frank Capra MEET JOHN DOE. It was about the populist strain in the US long before George Wallace or Trump discovered it.

Except that nowadays Trump could insult the 30-40% of Americans who are still true believers and they would either claim it was fake or agree with him and ask for more. The story of a Face in the Crowd ends with consequences for a demagogue that likely aren't borne out by reality. Trump will leave office soon. He may even be convicted by the Senate. But he will still go on to shape right wing politics for years because truth and decency don't matter to these people.

It's been nearly 5 years since Donald Trump claimed he could shoot someone on 5th Avenue and not lose a voter. Perhaps that level of hyperbole was never the case, but 74 million still lined up to vote for him even after hundreds of thousands of Covid victims stained his hands red. And the vast majority of the party still supports him after blatant lies led blood being spilled in the Capitol, not to mention what was nearly very likely the slaughter of our elected representatives. Trump will be a king maker in 2024 for the Republicans and seems poised to go to war with Fox News by starting his own media empire. And he won't be going anywhere until the American political right returns to reality and decides that this kind of ugliness is not what they want to be.

Yes, A Face in the Crowd is very relevant to trump. But the credit goes more to the writers, than to Griffith, despite his playing the part well. A somewhat similar movie is "The Intruder" starring William Shatner, but that one was about racism.

Check out the movie - "A Face in the Crowd." Scary. Only difference is that there was no need to leave the mike on to catch Trump as the Patricia Neal character did. Trump told us right out that his followers were such that he could shoot someone on Fifth Avenue and not lose their support. He insults their intelligence and they still bought his used car.

My God. When Trump is no longer POTUS and bad shit still happens, who are you going to put all of the blame on?

Those responsible, much as we are doing now.

Newsflash: Biden will be blamed for mistakes, as will McConnell et al. Other people will still be arrested and tried if evidence is there. Law and order.
