So apparently Anderson Cooper fired off a tweet this morning at Trump, but it turns out he left his cellphone at the gym somewhere and some stranger got a hold of it and sent the actual tweet.

I mean really, does CNN and AC think the public are stupid??. A stranger found AC's cellphone, and the first thought that came in his head was to fire off a tweet on his phone??!! Riiiiiggghhht!!! :doh :lamo

CNN says it's gotten to the bottom of Anderson Cooper's Trump-bashing tweet ... and all signs point to a forgetful assistant.

The mystery was cleared up Wednesday when the network said the message was sent from Cooper's assistant in NYC, while Anderson was in D.C.

CNN says the assistant, who's been on the job for 10 years, left his phone unlocked and unattended at the gym, and someone grabbed it and fired off the tweet. He's apparently the only other person besides Anderson with access to the account.

As we reported ... Anderson's verified Twitter account replied to Trump early Wednesday morning -- calling 45 a "tool!" and a "Pathetic loser."

Yeah, it's bad for a news commentator to make such a tweet - and people certainly ought to be held responsible for what goes out on their account.

That being said, AC is factually right, and he's only using the same kind of language that Trump - the sitting president and (supposedly) leader of the free world - has already used on many occasions...and really, should we somehow hold a newsman's tweets to a higher standard than the almost-no-standard-at-all that y'all hold Trump to for his tweets and behavior?

That's in the realm of someone's dog eating their homework. I don't believe for a second that someone found an unattended phone at the gym, and decided to sneak onto the Twitter on it so they could say something mean to Donald Trump.

I also don't care if Anderson Cooper said something mean to Trump, the man invites this kind of conflict and bickering. He trash talks people all the time, and has participated in plenty of media feuds.

Why doesn't it say @realAndersonCooper?

You don't need to put the word "real" in your account name to be a verified celebrity. The little check mark is a seal that Twitter hands out, saying that you have proved that you're actually who you claim to be. In theory, anyone with any account name could get one.

You might not like Cooper, but the guy is a professional. I highly doubt he would shoot off a tweet like that.
