South Africa municipal elections: Who are the winners and losers?
This is a first. Usually the "party of Mandela" crushes all opponents so much South Africa has been called a one-party state (except in the Cape Province). ANC got 46%, DA 22% and EFF 10% of the vote. ANC achieved a majority in 161 councils, the DA in 13 and the IFP in 10, while 66 municipalities are hung, meaning parties have to form coalitions to rule. Is this the end of ANC dominance? Will this repeat in the next National Election? What will happen then? The opposition parties can't stand each other, so they won't team up. Maybe how coalitions form in the 66 municipalities that became hung will give a clue?
