An 11-year-old genius just graduated from college with 3 different degrees

If he was really smart he would not have gone to the American River College in Sacramento...

At that age he has enough knowledge so as not to queue up for food stamps.

not much of a genius if he wants to become president, equating that with real productivity like medical research

the twitter comments in the link give me little hope for humanity either, that people would talk so profanely and insult a little kid

If he was smart he would figure out how to get those too...

Notice that he was rated by Mensa?

Mensa only considers an individual's raw IQ score in determining their intelligence level. Modern research, however, has validated centuries of common sense in determining that there is alot more to applied intelligence than a raw IQ score. A certain number of people with exceptionaly high IQ scores have not been nearly as productive as their scores would imply. As a result, nobody really emphasizes raw IQ scores anymore.

Why?

Because it's not an ivy-league school.

Being intellectually intelligent doesn't mean he's capable of handling things like social interactions and transportation.

Heh! I went to ARC while in HS. Helped me to graduate early and with significant college credits under my belt.

Bill Gates was a college dropout. So Harvard has no bearing on how smart you are.

Or that he is capable of really applying the full potential of his IQ score. As a result, very few people outside of Mensa emphasize IQ score anymore. There are just too many other variables invovled in determining "intelligence".

Mensa is retarded. IQ is great and all but I would rather have my respectable IQ along with my high Emotional IQ any day of the week...

Did Bill Gates get food stamps? No? Then he could not have been that smart.

But doing that with an IQ of 98 is normal... This kid claims to be smart.

I've taken IQ tests, even though I score relatively high, I find them to be a ****ing joke.

You want an IQ test? Wait until you're ****ing 80, look back in life, and see what you've accomplished. If you haven't accomplished ****, then any scores you may have received on tests or whatever don't mean ****. That's how I see it.

I agree totaly about Mensa. As for the value of emotional intelligence,

I have been told all my life via tests of various sorts and by people both lay and professional that my raw IQ score is exceptional ( I do not intend to boast, rather I am simply relating facts). Likewise, most, if not nearly all of the long time employees here would readily state that my IQ score is higher than that of my executive manager. Heck, she is probably easily willing to concede that herself.

My manager and I have been in this company for the same amount of time and started in the same position. Yet at the end of the day, she is three ranks higher than me. I firmly convinced that this is due to my low level of emotional intelligence contrasted with her repectable IQ score and good level of emotional intelligence.

Please note that emotional intelligence does not always equal "unpleasant personality". I am well liked. What it means in my case is that I cannot leverage, nor can I apply the totality of my IQ score due to poor orgainizational skills, attention span, lack of long term goals and plans etc.

How I wish I had her emotional intelligence.... .

It is called sarcasm...

He was smart enough to save his parents some dough for a superior education. ARC is, or was, actually quite good. I know they were far better than Sac State on the educational front.

congrats to the kid. i admit that i am interested in stories about kids (and adults) who have stunning amounts of raw computational power. the brain is a fascinating computer, and like other computers, there's hardware and software. most of the time, your parents design your OS, and then you're responsible for the updates.

I am sure that was his decision...

Define "accomplishing ****".
