Americans Continue to Shift Left on Key Moral Issues - GALLUP

No, most liberals I know think they are moderates. Those far enough removed to admit they aren't moderate are far enough left that they're nowhere near the middle.

What's the litmus test, in your opinion, for being slightly liberal?

It's a label you have given yourself, maybe you should define it.

I did. That's why I ask if there was a "litmus test"so I could tell if I was mistaken or not.

Another right wing vote for the sky is falling.

hilarious.

The world moves to the socially left as lines of communication open up and people can get the words from the horses mouth rather than taking authoritarians' words for it.

For example, now that gay marriage has been in effect for several years in this country in one place or another and people see that the ground isn't opening up and swallowing us whole and the four horsemen aren't riding in from the horizon people see truth. It's harder to preach fear into an educated populace.

I'd bet that 90% of Americans would identify themselves as being in the middle... that is until you ask them what they think about individual policies. The political intellectual lazy's tend to deploy a touch of narcissism when answering that question rather than political knowledge.

Not saying there aren't people in the middle. Just saying most people have not a clue as to where they are seated so they, by default, say the middle.

Another right-wing chicken little story.

yet has been around since the 1800's. it is actually pretty intelligent.

That's your test of intelligence? How long something's been around? You must worship the intellect of incestuous behavior then.

I go to a huge high school in a southern state and even my most conservative friends identify as socially liberal. I often hear the phrase "I'm fiscally conservative and socially liberal so I'm a libertarian". Despite them not know what a libertarian is, they line up on the left socially. The republicans need to change their stance on gay marriage and fast because they will lose a large portion of the young vote.

They should change their perspective, but not because of the young vote. They should do it at the very least because the persons that are likely to vote, donate, and organize are increasingly becoming in favor of it. Young people have almost never made the difference for a Party. Liberals for a while tried to say that young people made the difference in '08 and '12, but there was substantial evidence mounted which showed that a lot of individual pieces fell together to make the difference more than young people. Young people are not good indicators for power shifts, in large part, because they do not vote. Liberals had to learn that lesson in 1968 and in 1972, and they will have to continue to be reminded of that in the early 20th century.

Young people do have the tendency to get older.

A huge problem i see with American society today is its hidden unconscious bias towards retarded people, muslim people, fat people, ugly people, ghetto people, war veterans, even cops. Everyone can sense it. But hardly ever sees it. Until you start to read comments on the internet and realize this hidden unconcious bias exists in the majority of people and only the brave or one who truly doesnt give a **** lets it out.

Young people do have the tendency to get older.

But only carry portions of their political views over time and only vote once older. The Republican Party will adapt with the times, even if reluctantly. Young people will not be the driving force for that.

Only because old people cling to their archiac way of voting. We should all be able to put in our state ID and SS to vote from home and all sorts of options. Then old people would be left in the dust..

strawman much? this proves how correct the statement is.

I 100% agree with that. I'm just saying it's better for the republicans to adapt sooner rather than later.

Marriage as a norm is not limited to Western Society. Read up on the histories of Japan, China, Korea, etc

Marriage is a natural human state

Screw catering to the young vote. The role in life you play when you're young is to sit back and learn. You don't get to decide the direction of the Republican Party.

If young straight men are in favor of gay marriage, it just makes me question how soft your generation is.

Go vote for the democrats if you don't like the Republican platform

yet we wonder why society continues to drift into the trash can.

Yes if only we could go back to those days when people were moral in America. You know back when we stayed married and commited wholesale genocide against Native Americans. Back to those days when we didn't tolerate gays and enslaved an entire race of people. Back to those days when people waited until they were married before they had sex and we had children working in sweatshops and Jim Crow...

By any measure, we are a more moral and just society today than we have been at anytime in human history. The immoral actions in our society today pale in comparison to what was common place in the past.
