At times of natural disaster there are many examples of Americans coming to the aid of their fellow Americans. No doubt. In the aftermath of the devastating Guadalupe River flood this story is special. The video report is only 1:36 minutes. From across the country a small army of volunteers swooped in to resurrect a special needs camp in time to host the kids for their Summer session.

It's not just an American thing.

This is a good place for this story. A Mexican team rescued a Sheriff's family.

As an appreciative footnote to their search and rescue work for us folks might be interested to know they were not sent by the Mexican government. They're all volunteers from Acuña's Civil Protection and Fire Department and Fundación 911. They responded to a request for assistance from the U.S.-based volunteer search-and-rescue organization Texas EquuSearch. The team leader, Ismael Aldaba, actually grew up here in San Antonio.

There were other Mexican volunteers as well. International Tlatelolco Azteca Rescue Brigade, Los Topas, tried to send 20 volunteers. Only five made the border crossing. The remaining fifteen were left on the Mexican side of the border waiting for visa clearances.
