https://www.yahoo.com/news/top-us-navy-officer-urges-china-avoid-confrontations-120949889.htmlThe U.S. Navy's top officer said he urged China to follow international rules at sea to avoid confrontations and insisted Friday that ships should be able to pass safely though disputed areas of the South China Sea and Taiwan Strait.
Chief of U.S. Naval Operations Adm. John Richardson told reporters in Tokyo that U.S. Navy ships will continue to operate freely in international waters, including the possibility of an aircraft carrier navigating through the Taiwan Strait.
Richardson, who held meetings in China earlier this week, said he told Chinese officials that the U.S. is committed to a one-China policy and is opposed to any unilateral action "from either side of the strait" to change the status quo.

That will work....Not!
It is power that matters, China has it, the dying and exhausted West does not.
Trump's tariffs continue to hammer the Chinese economy.

And the global economy is dead man walking, maybe China gets to lead in the collapse.
See I can assure you that Trump never thought that far.

So...your article uses the word "urge", but somehow this equates, in your mind, the word "beg".
Or, maybe, China will be willing to talk? As a bonus, maybe China will ease off on some of their tariffs against American exports (which could bolster American workers and jobs). If anything else, you must agree China is evil and menacing and someone must bring them to bear.
False, I employed my superior understanding of the situation.

all world leaders now know that if you stroke Trump ego a bit you'll get what you want. they're just playing with our president militarily and economically.

Really? You must not be from the US. Fifty year highs in employment in many sectors of the economy.
China is not "evil and menacing," the USA is evil and menacing and threatening in waters 7-8,000 miles from our shoreline. The USA is the "agente provacatuer" in this matter. Taiwan was part of China until their civil war and Chou en Lai took his rebels to Formosa/Taiwan, a Chinese island territory. The USA supported Taiwan/Chou on that island for years or it would have reverted to Mainland Chinese control yeras ago. China has never relinquished claims to Taiwan and that is why it claims the territorial seas adjacent to the island. All of this is common knowledge, but the USA pretends it is not, almost. They no longer deny the One China claim. Big Corporate money on Taiwan is what has prevented Taiwan from reuniting with the Mainland. China will not talk because it considers the One China unnegotiable.

he tariffs are paid by USA citizens. The tariff is passed on to retail customers a/k/a You, me, Grandma and the dog.

The OP mentioned the South China sea. China has built artificial islands where they had put military bases and equipment. China is menacing in the South China Sea. Who's gonna deter China from their acts of imperialism? The EU? *SNORT* NATO? *SNORT* Russia? *SNORT* The UN *PLEASE*. Anyone but the US and, maybe, Israel?
Perhaps China has noticed the USA "good neighbor" policy that brings poverty, chaos, destruction and death wherever its' military touches down like Syria, Afghanistan, Panama, Vietnam, Libya, and the list goes on. Ergo they give the USA a polite middle finger and a no thank you, we don't need any help in the South China Sea or Taiwan Strait.

Listen Up: There is no reason for China to talk, we have turned up Lame, now is the time for China to grab power, and grab is what they are doing.
Look at what takes place in Washington and as well how broken Europe is.
These people are not stupid.
Zhou Enlai was Mao's prime minister. Your post erroneously refers to Zhou Enlai as Chou en Lai which is not an accurate transliteration of the name either. Transliteration is of course the spelling in English based on the phonics of each the Chinese and English languages respectively.
Chiang Kai Shek lost the civil war against Mao and relocated to Formosa, i.e., Taiwan, aka Republic of China. Chiang took his Guomintang party with him to Taiwan. Chiang would roll over in his tomb however knowing the Guomintang is now the pro Beijing party.
The current government is by the Democratic Progressive Party which never recognized the "One country, two systems" agreement between Beijing and the GMT in 1992. DPP recognizes one country one system which is the Taipei parlimentary system of democracy and independence from the mainland. The present is the first time voters on Taiwan have given the DPP control of both the presidency and the parliament (which is unicameral). The vast majority on Taiwan want nothing to do with the CCP Dictator-Tyrants in Beijing. Even the Guomintang has backed off its pro Beijing posture concerning unification under Beijing given the party has been blown out of office throughout the island, to include losing the mayor election in Taipei for the first time.
There have been three "Taiwan Strait Crises" since Chiang and his followers settled Taiwan, each one initiated by Beijing and each one of 'em cut off at the knees by Washington. The third crisis was in 1996 when Beijing spent weeks lobbing missiles into the strait in the runup to the island's first democratic election of the president. Potus Clinton sent two aircraft carrier strike groups to the strait forcing Beijing to cease firing. The strait's been quiet since but Beijing remains hyper to this day to get some USN aircraft carrier trophies. Presently peace doesn't have much chance in the standoff because Emperor for Life Xi Jinpingpong has vowed to incorporate Taiwain into the mainland during his rule. Stay tuned because all of Trump's China advisors to include John Bolton are old Taiwan hands. After being exiled in Washington for decades the Taiwan independence guys have Trump's ear and they want diplomatic relations yesterday. You know of course Trump himself hates China.
I still have a question for you Fagan. You posted some time ago you fought in Vietnam and that you volunteered but you've never answered my inquiry as to which side you volunteered to fight on. So yet again, on which side did you volunteer to fight with Vietnam.
