How do you know gun laws impacted his ability to purchase an AR15? He passed a Secret security clearance check and bought the firearm legally. How do you know he didnt prefer the pump shotty? And..we have already discussed Japan and clearly demonstrated that in Japan as in the US, those criminals invested in getting illegal weapons, do. Kinda surprised you went there again. No...wait...Im not. You DO wear the crown. The type of weapon used clearly impacts the scope and degree of any such crime. So I am still lost on why you feel guns should be ignored in the discussion. Well, besides the obvious one: that you like guns and lack the ability to make an intelligent argument on why that is ok and why you should continue to have access to them.
Indeed they do. In this very incident they impacted the perps ability to have an ar-15, japan is clearly able to restrict it's peoples access to guns through legislation, and in the US, full autos are not readily available in the black market, despite being heavily regulated in the legal one.
I never said they were, so I am lost on how this addresses anything I wrote
How are you going to determine if they are bought through legal means, when you have posted numerous times about the lax regulations in legal person to person sales?
Its not a slogan, its a fact. Gun laws do NOT impact availability.
If the MSM were not so indebted to Big Pharma for its advertising revenue, the story of psychoactive pharmaceuticals would be all over the papers and TV.
But it's not. Instead they put out propaganda and misinformation regarding guns.
We are SO screwed. :doh
First off...from a strictly efficiency standpoint an automatic weapon would make a terrible assault weapon. Ever fired one? Horribly inaccurate and inefficient strike ratios. Most people begin firing with a sight reasonably on target and by the 2nd round fired they are up, left, and firing into the sky. Second...considering this most recent shooter used a shotgun and handguns quite efficiently, they are obviously a superior choice. Holmes found that out in Aurora Colorado as his AR type weapon jammed shortly into the magazine and he switched to...yep...you guessed it...shotgun and handgun. Cho at VA Tech demonstrated the efficiency of a Glock handgun...again...who needs a stinkin overrated machine gun? Then why aren't automatic weapons used in any mass shootings?
(I'm struggling with the fact that some people on these gun threads are either so confused that they can't think logically, or so scared someone is going to take their toys....errr...freedom away that they are self-deluded)

Im struck by the mindless ****heads that feel the need every time there is a tragic event to decide to reinvigorate their attacks on private ownership of weapons. Im stunned that those same mindless ****heads ignore the FACT that background checks were used in DC, Conn, Col, Az, Va, etc...and yet the first thing they do is clamor for new laws re background checks. Im AMAZED that those same ****heads strike up the fight against ARs even when they arent used (that point was driven home by the NYPD Police Chief after NY passed their moronic anti gun legislation when he pointed out only THREE of THIRTEEN HUNDRED rounds used in violent crimes in NYC could be attributed to a rifle of ANY KIND, let alone an 'assault rifle").
SO...I guess we are both 'struggling' a bit....arent we.
The military uses select fire weapons, MOUNTED machine guns, and heavy machine guns not best used in an assault situation. Dont worry...we already KNOW that.I love when you make a logical argument about laws and gun availability and I get a thesis about the merits of toys.
Please let the military know that automatic weapons are inefficient in mass slaughter. Somehow, every army in the world is missing this point.
WAIT...WAIT... I just saw...you live in Chicago. Thats AWESOME. The nation should adopt YOUR city's gun laws. Right? :lamoI love when you make a logical argument about laws and gun availability and I get a thesis about the merits of toys.

Select fire weapons... hmmm. what fire types can you select? Oh, yeah. Automatic. Here's your ass back. The military uses select fire weapons, MOUNTED machine guns, and heavy machine guns not best used in an assault situation. Dont worry...we already KNOW that.
What you should NOT love is the regularity which you get your ass handed to you on this subject, the stupidity of your responses, and in general, just how foolish you look. I find it comical that you and others post your continued mindless snarky little comments and somehow...you think that is a 'good' thing. But hey...live your name...
Not at all. The point was VERY clear. Automatic weapons are little more than "spray and pray" weapons. They are inefficient. Lots of wasted ordinance...lots of bang and clatter...very little results. Whats the matter...do you NOT read all the anti gun talking points showing why an AR style weapon is such a 'perfect' killing machine?Select fire weapons... hmmm. what fire types can you select? Oh, yeah. Automatic. Here's your ass back.
You still deftly avoided my point by talking about your favorite toys. A ban on fully automatic weapons in the US sure has cut down the availability of those weapons, hasnt it? And that ban is (wait for it...) a LAW. Therefore, a LAW has prevented people from getting a specific type of GUN. Logic will follow that LAWS can prevent people from easily obtaining GUNS, which I believe someone said the exact opposite somewhere above this post.
WAIT...WAIT... I just saw...you live in Chicago. Thats AWESOME. The nation should adopt YOUR city's gun laws. Right? :lamo

Hey...how does it feel living in a CITY with more murders than the death toll in the war in Afghanistan?

True. Scary reality. We are losing family members as well. NOT relevant to the gun argument, but very true.More of our soldiers have died in the middle east than those two stats combined due to suicide: 1 active soldier and 22 veterans per day.
Wait...what? You believe it didnt really happen...that it was all just a hoax?I think the attack in the U.S. navy yard was a false flag one. The timing is just too perfect, given our government's deliberation over Syria, and it wanting to take away more gun rights. Gotta keep the fear stoked.
People will call me a conspiracy theorist I guess, but if you look at the history of how governments setup these events during wartimes - including our own government - all you have to do is connect the dots.
They don't bother organizing terrorism in civilian spaces anymore. They just get the military to do it in their own bases where the media can't really cover it and risk exposure of what really happened.

Tell us ALL ABOUT how those gun laws are doing in your little ****hole you live in.
Really? Gun laws restrict gun availability? Hows that working in Chicago? And for the record...you are cool with ARs...its just fully auto machine guns you are concerned about now? :lamoNo. Lets focus on the actual argument instead of diverting.
Gun laws restrict gun availability. Thats the thesis. And its undoubtedly true, which is why you hate gun laws. They'll cut into your toys and freedom to open up holes in other peoples internal organs when you get skeered.
No. Lets focus on the actual argument instead of diverting.
You said gun laws have no effect upon gun availability. I showed Gun laws restrict gun availability. Thats the thesis. And its undoubtedly true, which is why you hate gun laws. They'll cut into your toys and freedom to open up holes in other peoples internal organs when you get skeered.
Basically, they don't want gun laws because they like to play Wild West. If you make rules for your child's dirt bike use or set a curfew, he won't like it either. He will throw a tantrum like the rednecks who want their guns.
Isn't it funny how it is the cities with liberal governments and restrictive gun laws that have that Wild West environment? Places like...oh...say...Chicago? :lamo
No but this counterargument is stupid and aimed at trivialization and distraction. I do not care to speak of swimming pools and/or cars. What they have to do with accidental death is a subject for another thread.
The issue is about guns and your constitutional right to "bare arms." You are fighting to keep this right even though it may increase the odds of being killed by it.
That is astonishing. As Threegoofs put it: Fight to the death for the right to be killed easier.

its interesting that the anti gun nonsense has shifted from coming from "liberals" "progressives" and "socialists" to new "slightly conservatives" who appear to be Ben and Jerry Seminar posters.
the fact is-laws that punish criminal misuse or reckless discharge of weapons are proper and sound state actions. laws that exist only to harass honest gun owners or have the effect of mainly harassing honest gun owners are idiotic. It is the latter laws that people like threegoofs and you apparently support
Do you think that students should be allowed to have guns on my college campus?
the flaw is in your response. A correct response would be "Chicago has VERY RESTRICTIVE gun laws, Chicago has a very high violent crime and murder rate, Chicago's very restrictive gun laws have done nothing to prevent violent crime". Maybe instead of the simple minded 'ban guns' rhetoric (because that has worked so well with drugs) you have to actually focus on the problems. Maybe the problem is not guns (as the vast majority of law abiding gun owners demonstrate) but rather the violent criminals. Maybe you have to go after them...not the guns in the hands of law abiding citizens. Maybe the answer is enforcement of existing laws and extreme penalties for those that sell and use guns illegally.Maybe if you think like a simpleton. Who can tell me what is wrong with this logic:
1. (a) There is violence in Chicago
1. (b) Chicago has gun laws
2. Therefore, gun laws cause violence.
