Why did 47 pardon this guy? I mean, constitutionally he can, but why did he do it?

"Trump announced on Truth Social he pardoned Ulbricht, who was held in a high-security prison in Florence, Colorado, saying the “scum that worked to convict [Ulbricht]” are the “same lunatics who were involved in the modern-day weaponization of government against me.” Trump appeared to appeal to libertarian voters while speaking at the Libertarian National Convention in May 2024, saying he would pardon Ulbricht “if you vote for me.” Preston Byrne, a partner at the law firm Byrne & Storm, told Bloomberg Trump’s proposed pardon also likely appealed to crypto advocates who saw Silk Road as the first use for the decentralized cryptocurrency bitcoin."

TRUMP acts the way he does because at his very core he is just an insecure douchebag "ABC" salesman that enjoys the game AND worships at the alter of money

Basically TRUMP is a cult leader,...

AND the overwhelming majority of TRUMP followers do not have the backbone to admit the truth that they are following a persuasive guy (who can't tell "right" vs "wrong")

What gives me some hope for humanity is that,... some individuals do wake up to the fact that TRUMP is an insecure douchebag "ABC" salesman

Convicted US Capitol rioter turns down Trump pardon

One of the people who served jail time for taking part in the US Capitol riot four years ago has refused a pardon from President Donald Trump, saying: "We were wrong that day."

Pamela Hemphill, who pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 60 days in prison, told the BBC that there should be no pardons for the riot on 6 January 2021.

"Accepting a pardon would only insult the Capitol police officers, rule of law and, of course, our nation," she said.

"I pleaded guilty because I was guilty, and accepting a pardon also would serve to contribute to their gaslighting and false narrative."

Hemphill, who was nicknamed the "Maga granny" by social media users - in reference to Trump's "make America great again" slogan - said she saw the Trump government as trying to "rewrite history and I don't want to be part of that".

"We were wrong that day, we broke the law - there should be no pardons," she told the BBC World Service's Newsday programme.

Trump's decision to pardon or commute the sentences of nearly 1,600 people involved in the attempt to violently overturn the 2020 election came just hours into his presidency.

No doubt this guy has a stash of bitcoin- back when it cost a few dollars.

Trump probably has some deal where he’ll convert it to Trumpcoin- and no one can ever find out.

Wow, that's a new one for me. Thanks.

Way better than listening to some of the released talk about how they can't wait to get back out there and protect democracy...

Those individuals who talk about how they can't wait to get back out there and protect democracy,... AND pay lip-service to traditional religious values,... seem to be blind to the fact that they are worshiping at the alter of money AND material objects

FWIW put together a PDF slide-deck on the problem (that can be accessed via a "web site domain name")

Why did 47 pardon this guy?
It was a sop to the Crypto Creeps.

That said: Ulbricht got life without parole, which is pretty harsh given that he wasn't actually convicted of his alleged half-dozen murder for hire attempts; and he served 10 years before being pardoned. However, AFAIK Ulbricht has never admitted the slightest bit of remorse, and Dear Leader's excuse is a bat-shit crazy reason to release him. I'm also sure Ulbricht will reoffend somehow. My guess for his next crime is "crypto rug pull."

I used to think that 47 was just a wanna-be authoritarian. I've changed my mind and now see him as someone who is looking to crash the American economy.

It's the same thing. Seriously. Crash the economy, is an excuse to take over.

I disagree. 47 is a wanna-be authoritarian, but I don't think he imagines ruling a broken country. I think he wants to crash the economy because Vlad wants him to. Why? IMO, Vlad may really have a pee tape. A hotel Trump stayed at while in Moscow was a known honey-trap location used by the KGB.

"During Trump and then-wife Ivana's travelled to Russia in 1987, after being invited by a senior diplomat to discuss property developments, it's believed Trump would have been filmed with Russian prostitutes sent to him as a "honey trap", making him vulnerable to blackmail by the Kremlin, its then top spy told the book's author."

"He stayed at the National Hotel in Moscow and during his entire trip was almost certainly under 24-hour surveillance by the KGB."

"In an interview for House of Trump, Kalugin he said: "I would not be surprised if the Russians have, and Trump knows about them, files on him during his trip to Russia and his involvement with meeting young ladies that were controlled [by Soviet intelligence]."

The trip was long before Trump's 2013 visit to Moscow to attend the Miss Universe pageant. It was that visit which led to allegations that he was filmed watching prostitutes urinate on a bed once used by Barack and Michelle Obama – claims he has denied as false and "fake news", but which have led to the notorious "golden showers" dossier.

The claim was first made in the dossier prepared for former British spy Christopher Steele, who was commissioned during Trump's election campaign by Fusion GPS, a Washington "research firm" to look into his Russian ties.

Kalugin insists that Trump is probably aware of the existence of the "kompromat," what Russians call compromising material."
