I'm working at a grocery this morning, doing inventory and it was break time, so I go out to the car to vape and have a slurp. A homeless guy is walking through the parking lot, asked a couple people for a cig, but no one had one to give him. He was heading toward the payment in front of the store when two cop cars come dashing in and block him. Each cop gets out of his car and they have him sit down by the store wall outside, which he does very calmly and obediently. The one cop is like totally over him, and in his space but not touching him.
So I decide to take out my camera and video the situation just in case. That one cop was being very aggressive, imo. A few minutes later another cop shows up and heads generally in that direction. I was a good 50ft away and well behind the three cop cars.
When break was up they were still talking to him, but alas, I have to go back in, so I put the phone away and headed into the store. So far so good, the cops seemed to behave. The homeless guy is just getting up and leaving. Great.
As I clear the entrance, I hear the one aggressive cop say "Hey, come out here with me."
I say in a normal voice, "I have done anything that deserves to be detained"
He says, "No, just come out here with me."
I said, "I didn't think so, and no," and proceeded to go to get my equipment and get back to work.
He is now furious, takes out his phone and hollers at the top of his lungs, "How would you like if I come around recording you while you work."
I said in a normal voice again, "Fine with me," and kept walking.
He continued to holler at me and try to follow me, pushing aside the grocer's patrons in the process.
Ultimately I was asked to leave the store before my shift was up. Now I understand the grocer's concern with not going against the police, but let's be real, I didn't do anything wrong. That cop has an aggression issue.
Even still I'll take the 4 hours of docked time on my job rather than not recording an aggressive asshat with a badge anyday, anytime.

Next time really piss the ****er off and record him going nuts
I would have except that I don't take my phone into work with me, I leave it in the car. Besides, once break was over, I'm on my employer's dime, so not okay, imo. But yeah, it crossed my mind that I wish I had that video.
Arent your on your employers dime during your break also?

Someone in this situation seems to have a chip on their shoulder, and it is not any of the policemen.
Why didn't you just say that to the cop? I can't tell what tone of voice you used, but what you said to the cop doesn't seems a bit confrontational.
Not that I'm aware of. My boss isn't the grocer, we are an outside inventory audit service. My boss had to ask me to go, and I understand both his position and the store's. My boss followed me out to my car to assure that I knew I was in no trouble the company I work directly for and that he saw the cop as the problem, not me. Nonetheless, when the grocer asks for an auditor to leave, we leave.

so you arent being paid at all during your break?
Oh my, have you never had a break, have you never checked your phone or made a call during break. WTF is your problem? Unlike most workers in USA, I don't have my phone at work so I am not tempted to answer it or respond to texts like just about every other worker I've ever seen seems to do. So I don't get what you're point is, but it's not rational whatever it is.

I assume you were on a 15 minute paid break from work? you are still on your employers dime, yes they are giving you a rest break from working but you are still on the clock and still required to act in a professional manner.
yes, I have had a break. I also know that I am paid while having a break.
I did act in a professional manner, it was the cop who didn't. My boss and his assistant both assured me that was what they saw and I was in no trouble with them at all.
I think your threads should be merged. This is making me dizzy.
Sorry for being off topic
So what? What does that have to do with anything? I'm not in trouble with my company. I'm not even in trouble with the grocer, he was even apologetic, nonetheless the grocer has to keep the cops happy, he sort of has no choice since the cop made such an issue.
My reply has to do with the words you used and the statements you made.
crazy how that works
I have no idea what you're talking about. Are you suggesting that I should have stopped what I was doing to be reprimanded by a cop that had no legitimate reason to stop me? Wow, I thought you were a libertarian... I see you're more Republican.
I'm suggesting that while even on break, you are a paid employee of someone.
personally, if I employed you, I would tell you to be a political activist on your own time.
