It's a phrase we hear each and every day, and of course, much of the bandying about of that phrase comes from our own government leaders. But do they practice what they preach? Lets take a look. Because I am lazy, will will, from now on in this post, refer to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness by the acronym LLPH. The short acronym makes my job of posting this much easier, and makes me happy, thus contributing to my own LLPH.
1) The war on drugs - Is not only a failure, but doesn't follow LLPH. If someone wants to smoke a joint, he or she should be able to fire one up. After all, it is their LLPH to do so. Of course, if they get addicted to the harder stuff, it is their own responsibility to clean themselves up. Cleaning up a heroin or coke addiction is also LLPH. Demanding that others do it for them interferes with their own LLPH, as it takes money from them to help the addict with their LLPH. This is just "plain old common sense", which I will now refer to as TP (After Thomas Paine), because, once again, I am a lazy bastard. LOL.
2) Drugs and alcohol while driving - With rights, come responsibilities. Your LLPH is only a right so long as it does not threaten to deprive someone else of their own LLPH. Once again, TP rules.
How am I doing so far?
3) Laws requiring people to wear seat belts and motorcycle helmets? LLPH is an inherant right, but nowhere does the Constitution say that the government has any right or obligation to help out someone who is seeking LLPH. The ant farmers should realize that, in not wearing a helmet, according to some dumbass who thinks that is his LLPH, he naturally forfeits all LLPH once he is dead, as TP would dictate that a dead person is incapable of LLPH. But that is up to him, not the government. A little more TP, folks.
4) My right to fart? OK, lets keep this thread serious, and not get silly. A little TP in the posting of this thread may be necessary, so that I enjoy LLPH while posting it.
5) The Second Amendment - There is nothing like a gun to make sure that whoever is enjoying LLPH continues to enjoy LLPH. Another example of TP. Again, dead people can't enjoy LLPH, and when someone takes the life of someone who is enjoying LLPH, then of course, that person no longer has LLPH. A book's worth of TP in this statement.
6) Gay marriage? Let gays enjoy LLPH, just like anybody else. They are not hurting the LLPH of anybody else.
7) The right to vote? Definitely part of the LLPH for anybody who cares. Intelligence and literacy tests be damned. Show me where in the Constitution where the retarded have fewer rights than anybody else. And, historically, literacy tests have had nothing to do with either intelligence or literacy, but were a device used to Jim Crow a whole race of people from the ballot box, thus depriving them of LLPH. Very simple TP on this one.
8) Taxes? Nobody denies that there should be taxes. We need to maintain the infrastructure here - DUH?? The problem here is that we have had politicians whose idea of LLPH is taking LLPH from some and giving LLPH to others. Sorry, but that is not the American way, according to TP.
9) Campaign financing? The corporations and unions get it, and are willing as hell to fight for their own LLPH, while denying you YOUR LLPH. But how many millions of Americans are unwilling to unass a single dollar to fight for their own LLPH. TP dictates that LLPH is something that must always be fought for. If you unwilling to fight, then you get what you deserve. No LLPH for those who don't really want it.
10) Finally, DanaRhea's right to post a thread like this? Just enjoying LLPH, while not having a lot of TP in my posting style today. But, I would maintain that there is plenty of TP in WHAT I am posting. And I also got a huge online dose of LLPH during the few minutes I spent creating this.
