President Donald Trump held a high-stakes call with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday over the war in Ukraine.

Trump, in a post to his conservative social media platform, said the call lasted two hours and that he believed it went "very well."

"Russia and Ukraine will immediately start negotiations toward a Ceasefire and, more importantly, an END to the War," the president wrote. "The conditions for that will be negotiated between the two parties, as it can only be, because they know details of a negotiation that nobody else would be aware of."

Likewise, Ukraine can be a great beneficiary on Trade, in the process of rebuilding its Country. Negotiations between Russia and Ukraine will begin immediately. I have so informed President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, of Ukraine, Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, President Emmanuel Macron, of France, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, of Italy, Chancellor Friedrich Merz, of Germany, and President Alexander Stubb, of Finland, during a call with me, immediately after the call with President Putin. The Vatican, as represented by the Pope, has stated that it would be very interested in hosting the negotiations. Let the process begin!

Does not automatically mean the this starts tomorrow, or that Putin and Zelenskyy are anywhere near each other, or that it will result in a fast ceasefire.

But we should at least hope for an end to the bloodshed.

Lack of substance is normal for trump.

This one may require the benefit of the doubt, at least temporarily, that Trump has orchestrated at least some sort of opening conversation between Russia and Ukraine. Does not automatically mean the this starts tomorrow, or that Putin and Zelenskyy are anywhere near each other, or that it will result in a fast ceasefire.

But we should at least hope for an end to the bloodshed.

I have little faith in Putin's words, no more than Trump's words, which is to say "none at all".
