I think while the regime might think we are similar to post WW1 Germany, the American people are not a defeated populace. They are not going to react kindly to national checkpoints and opening fire on families.

There's some interesting history to the origin of the FBI. Of course the founders strongly opposed a standing military, as leading to despotism. Congress refused to create the FBI, saying they didn't want to give the president a private police force, which could lead to despotism, so the president had to do some trickery to get it established.

When ICE arrests somebody (often taking them out of their workplace) they immediately take them to a detention facility hundreds of miles away on purpose so they lack local contacts, visitation and resources to contest their detention. What an insane waste of taxpayer dollars.

Arrest somebody in California? Take them to Texas.

Arrest somebody in Texas? Take them to California.

We are pretty good when called upon, we just haven't been called upon in a long time. Trump is going to set up national checkpoints while our economy is crashing. And then he's going to have lavish parties in his 200m ballroom. Americans aren't built to be North Koreans. We thought the pandemic was a horror show because we had to binge Netflix and order DoorDash.
