'A threat to democracy': William Barr's speech on religious freedom alarms liberal Catholics | US news | The Guardian

Attorney general’s recent address at Notre Dame is a ‘dog whistle’ to conservatives who have aligned themselves with Trump

Prominent liberal Catholics have warned the US attorney general’s devout Catholic faith poses a threat to the separation of church and state, after William Barr delivered a fiery speech on religious freedom in which he warned that “militant secularists” were behind a “campaign to destroy the traditional moral order”.

The speech last Friday at the University of Notre Dame law school, in which Barr discussed his conservative faith and revealed how it affects his decision-making as the nation’s chief law-enforcement officer, has set off a fierce debate among Catholic intellectuals from across the political spectrum, as well as among Catholics inside the justice department.

Having been raised a Catholic via a parochial education, if I had the button at hand to destroy the whole evil lot I would press it without a second's hesitation. It's all about control & power over people. Any organization that exists for the sole purpose of having power over people is evil by definition.

We get it. You hate the Church and those who are faithful to it.

Well, I certainly would not be happy if the country adopted a state religion of any sort, especially Catholicism...I doubt I am alone....

Religion should not be on our money and the pledge of allegiance should be scrapped.

It should be illegal for any religious verse to be on public property. No bibles in court rooms for example.

Any judge found to display his/her religious beliefs should be removed from office and dis-barred.

That also goes for school, government buildings, government owned airports and hospitals, military bases and police stations.
