A person is killed and an ICE agent injured at an immigration arrest near Chicago

A person is killed and an ICE agent injured at an immigration arrest near Chicago
An officer fatally shot a person who injured an ICE agent during an immigration arrest in the Chicago area Friday, according to federal immigration officials.

A spokesperson for Immigration and Customs Enforcement said that officers were conducting a vehicle stop as part of a "targeted law enforcement activity" on Friday morning.

The person being stopped resisted and attempted to drive his vehicle into the officers arresting him, subsequently striking and dragging one of them, ICE said in a statement. "Fearing for his life, the officer discharged his firearm and struck the subject," ICE said.

Photos and video captured by NBC Chicago showed multiple law enforcement vehicles in Franklin Park, where the shooting occurred.

Both the officer and the driver were taken to a hospital. The driver was pronounced dead at the hospital. The officer sustained severe injuries and is in stable condition, ICE said.

To give my brain a rest from politics, I usually go to YouTube videos. I watch a lot of videos of all sorts, and watch police body cam videos. I have probably seen 100 of them. There have been traffic stops where the driver is in the car, behind the wheel with the keys in the ignition. I have never seen a police officer stand directly in front of that vehicle. Police will always stand to the side. I think the training of ICE is minimal, since ICE is hiring men as fast as they can, and I don't believe for a minute that their training is adequate to react to situations such as this without getting injured or having to kill the perpetrator.

The National Guard should not be involved in targeted law enforcement.

I am not sure how I would react to unidentified masked men trying to kidnap me.
Why? Do you have some sort of fear that gangs are going around kidnapping middle aged men? 😂

To what end?

DHS Statement on ICE Officer Seriously Injured in Line of Duty and Shooting in Chicago During Traffic Stop

ICE law enforcement is facing a 1000% increase in assaults against them as they carry out enforcement operations
CHICAGO — Thismorning, while carrying out an enforcement operation targeting a criminal illegal alien, the alien resisted arrest, attempted to flee the scene and dragged a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer a significant distance with his car.

The officer sustained multiple injuries and is in stable condition. The illegal alien was pronounced dead.

I'd drive away whilst dialing 911.
I see this in police videos a lot. A policeman makes the stop, goes to walk over to the driver's side, and the suspect takes off. The cop goes back to his car, starts to chase, and calls in for other police to intervene, giving the location, the direction it's going and description of the vehicle. It doesn't take long before that car is stopped and surrounded by several state police cars. Sometimes the perpetrator takes off, heads for a field on the side of the road, the cops take chase and always get him in handcuffs, no guns used. That comes with good training, and that's not what ICE agents are getting, they have absolutely no experience in policing.

Zero stats can be believed from this trump 🚽 of an admin.

"Nobody would try to kidnap you" isn't exactly a comfort, I'm sure. Why do criminals do anything? In the midst of masked men dragging you out of your car (the general "you"), are you guaranteed to just go along with it calmly and not panic and try to get away because after all, nobody would want to kidnap you, why would they, you're middle-aged, ha ha?

This likely wouldn't have happened if ICE was less aggressive and more respective of people's rights.
I tend to think the problem is the combination of two felonies: failing to follow a lawful order from federal officials and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

How did he know it was a lawful order from federal officials?

Would you be certain of that while being dragged out of your car by several masked men who weren't wearing uniforms? "Well, I'm sure these guys are federal officials giving me a lawful order so I'll just go along with it." Like hell...

They really need to update their practices and learn de-escalation techniques.

Will there ever be a press conference from Trump’s Chief of Staff?
