A Good Guy With A Gun

Hostage held hostage by a hostage?
Good shot none the less.

And a really good shot, too.

The cop fired a single shot and struck the hostage-taker while both the cop and his target were moving without harming the hostage. Damn impressive.

This officer should be teaching gun handling and close-proximity shooting training courses to police departments nationwide. Whoever instructed him should certainly be.

I met a man who was on the first SWAT team in my community back in the 70s.

There was an attempted bank robbery that went south. The robber took hostages when the police arrived. He was holding a female as he stood near the glass front door and gave his demands to a police negotiator.

A sharpshooter, across a four-lane street, across the parking lot, and looking towards the late afternoon sun, through the glass door, took a single shot, killing the robber and not harming the hostage. It was an amazing feat.

Good for him---nice work.

Meanwhile, thousands die due to lack of gun control, while every so often a "good guy" with a gun stops a criminal. And that criminal will be pardoned if he sucks up to Trump.........so, your point???

In the meantime, Trump Pardon's criminals who do more harm than this one guy stopped by the "good guy with a gun"................

Good guys with guns use their guns lawfully 99.9999% of the time. Over 500,000 defensive firearm uses annually. Only around 15,000 unlawful deaths via firearm annually. Whoops.

How? People that engage in criminal enterprise are the predominate people who commit homicide. That makes up about a third of people dying by gunshot. The remaining two thirds are suicide. Japan has a higher suicide rate despite much fewer guns.

So the logic of this statement is questionable

Any criminal that's ever stopped is by a good guy with a gun. Most criminals didn't stop until police stop them.

He should've moved closer to the knifeman, where he could've made an arrest

US cops are just so trigger happy.
Ummm...yeah. Okay.

I think I'll just leave those kinds of decisions up to the professionals.

Are you a professional?

Look at it as an on the spot correction of inappropriate behavior.

For the egregious crime of saving someone’s life. Makes sense.
He saved no one's life and placed the victim in great peril recklessly.

Oh, must have been a fake knife the criminal was holding.
He did not try to desculate the situation and he put the hostage in grave peril with his recklessness.

I home he loses his home in a civil suit.

He actually saved the hostage.

Which part? Where you wish financial destitution on a cop saving a hostage victim? Good example of why qualified immunity exists.
The guy has no business being a cop.

Yeah, and the problem is that all too many Americans are willing to allow their policemen to be trigger happy killers.

2014:
US police killed 1100 people
Canadian police killed 14 people
British police killed 1 person (same as in 2013 Btw)
German police killed 0 people (same as in 2013)
Icelandic police killed 0 people (in fact they've only every killed 1 person ... EVER)
Chinese police killed 12 people (with a population 4.5 times larger than the USA)

Let that sink in. Law enforcement in the US killed 92 times more people than a country with nearly 1.4 billion people

"...from 2010 through 2014, there were 4 fatal police shootings in England, which has a population of about 52 million. By contrast, Albuquerque, NM, with a population 1 percent the size of England''s, had 26 fatal police shootings in that same time period..."

Have you ever been to Albuquerque? I was offered a job there once. Turned it down when I realized that "Breaking Bad" is pretty much a documentary about ABQ.
