I saw this at National Review. A concise explanation of how the blue slip works in practice, how Trump himself has benefited from the blue slip and why the blue slip is unlikely to die.

The bottom line is that the blue slip is an INDIVIDUAL Senator's prerogative that gives them leverage in the Senate, leverage they would lose if the blue slip was to die. They will not give that leverage up.

Beyond that, the blue slip kept dozens of judicial seats open under both Obama and Biden that Trump was later able to fill or are currently available to fill.

Trump should not be whining because of one blocked United States Attorney nominee in New Jersey.

He has benefited far more from the blue slip than any harm he might have incurred.

His push to abolish the blue slip will fail.

Grassley is brave for telling MAGA Baby to stay in his own lane over blue slips.

The blue slip has never applied to Justices or Circuit Judges.
Since it is unwritten, I'm gonna need a source for that claim. Is a federal judge a federal position? Obviously.

Senatorial courtesy is a long-standing, unwritten, unofficial, and nonbinding constitutional convention in the U.S. describing the tendency of U.S. senators to support a Senate colleague opposing the appointment to federal office of a nominee from that senator's state.

So one guy can hold up and keep empty a seat on the bench indefinitely?

That's BUILT IN corruption!

For once I'm actually on Trump's side but for very different reasons

You misinterpret Senatorial Courtesy. The idea is that the states are far more familiar with the nominee than the nominating branch or the other 98 Senators. To fill the seat, they just nominate a different person.
