85 percent of Greenlanders don’t want Trump takeover, new poll says​


And there you have it. It is as I have said: they want independence, and have the right to declare independence any time they feel like it, but can't afford it, because economic dependency on Copnehagen. And to Trump there message is: "Get lost", or as Greenland's PM Múte Egede said it: "We don’t want to be Danes. We don’t want to be Americans. We want to be Greenlanders".

'We don't want to be Americans' says Greenland PM​

Greenland has had the right to unilaterally declare independence from Denmark since 2009, the main reason they haven't is financial. 60% of their budget is economic support from Denmark. Greenland also has full autonomy when it comes to mining contracts, so the reason so many mining contracts are turned down is not because Copenhagen protests, but because Nuuk is very thorough and anything that could possibly hurt fishing (environmental concerns mostly) means No Deal. You have to remember fishing is not only the largest industry on Greenland, it is also their main food source.
 
Too late. Space Force has already gotten a foothold and established a base.

Remember that there's an Undecided group as well. Only 6% said that they want to join US.

Besides, Greenland is already associated with EU since it's a (semi-autonomous) part of Denmark. If Greenland ever would become separated from Denmark, they'll probably want to keep being a member of EU, and not USA anyway – especially now when USA has a president which threatens to use military force against another NATO member.

It can't be a member of NATO as a separate, independent country, because it isn't a separate, independent country.

Agreed, I was about to say, in other shocking news 85% of people in just about any nation do not want to see some other nation invade them.
 

If I were a Greenlander I would want to avoid warfare with the US.................................those kayaks are all pretty thin hulled.

Greenland vs USA would have been a NATO against NATO battle, in other words very complicated. Trump has already mentioned that he may want towithdraw USA from NATO, and a war between USA and the 31 remaining NATO countries will probably will never happen – and who knows, maybe it wouldn't even happen happen in kayaks.

In a way Greenland would be considered a developing country, but one with an enormous potential. It has less than 60 000 citizens – spread over an area which is around the size of Mexico. But only 15% speaks Danish, and 70% speaks only Greenlandic. Maybe EU should consider an agreement with Greenland as an independent country, ensuring them help if they would be attacked by another NATO country.
 
I suppose Trump is validating any future Russian or Chinese invasion of Greenland should they become independent.

The US is “validating” its own expansionist fantasies and interest in grabbing as much of Greenland’s resources as it physically can. The idea that Russia or China are going to invade is a laughably thin “rationale” for occupation.
 
Greenland will never be part of the US. Trump was just talking out of his ass to move headlines away from his lies about reducing prices for Americans.

While also validate those countries ambition in other areas. Like for example things have already getting more tense in Svalbard after Russia's invasion of Ukraine. There Russia can use Trump's talk of annexing Greenland as an excuse for further escalation.

Funny how the right on this forum went all out on defending Trump wanting to take over Greenland and now you are trying to pretend that didn't happen. Sorry...no one's buying that.
