It's not my list. I'm sure for older women, that was the go-to female erotica. There's so much more now.
 
In my experience literature as a whole does not translate to movies very well. The only one I ever saw that did a decent job was Harry Potter.

I really think that that's because when reading you get inside of the character in a way you just can't on the screen.
 

I agree with you that Harry Potter are the only books I've seen adapted to movies very, very well. There are still things they didn't have time to put into the movies, though.

Yeah there is some things missing.

But I think when you're reading any story you see the main character as yourself and good writers make the main character very relatable. That's much easier to do in a written format then in a visual one.

Sometimes it's what's left to the imagination and not vividly decribed that makes a passage erotic. I remember reading in one of the prologues or epilogues where Diane Gabaldon describes her husbands assessment of her books and tells her something to the effect of "Enough with the nipples, already!" Wonderful fascinating author, she has a degree in Marine Biology. Go figure!
 

I was reading the Priest series and after the 87th sex scene started I was like "OMG! They're doing it AGAIN??"

There has been some. 1984, Tom Jones, 2001, The Thin Red Line, and A Clockwork Orange.

I don't think he's too into knowing other people. He says the only two things that bring him Joy is drinking vodka and listening to rock music.

The first one is a big red flag. I only use alcohol as a social lubricant. It's the socializing that brings me joy not the alcohol.

I don't think he wants to know anything about people I don't think he likes us. Anytime I've ever seen this poster making comment that's always pessimistic. I was in negativeland once upon a time. It's a rough place to be. I hope he gets through it

Now Ann Rice (RIP) was WAY out there with her Sleeping Beauty series of books. They were downright pornographic. Kinda disturbing and dark. She definitely had a kinky side! I liked her vampire books a whole lot more!

Yes. The Sleeping Beauty trilogy is very, very spicy. Sierra Simone's series is a lot like it.

Mario Puzo's The Godfather translated well to the screen - ironically with the exception of the most erotic sections about Johnny Fontane's sex life, which were completely omitted from the movies.

The movie always has to be edited to fit into 2 plus hours but staying true to the essence of the book is what is important. The modern TV series can do justice to something like The Game of Thrones, the actual books not the one they made up at the end.

From your list I picked The Thorn Birds. Not sure how spicy it is but I remember starting it maybe 30 years ago, liking it, and never finishing it for some reason. The reviews are a bit mixed but the book has some literary merit.

I read a book by Gay Talese called They Neighbor's Wife. It historical fiction about the sexual revolution in America. It goes in the banning of books, people going to jail, the personal stories of Hugh Hefner and Larry Flynt, among others. It's sex mixed with American history, mixed with SCOTUS battles over porn, mixed with personal lives.

I really like it and learned alot.

That's one of the consistent things about banning books, people tend to look back on it as being absurd.
