We lock more people up than any country on earth. We've got good company, though. Countries like...El Salvador, Turkmenistan, Rwanda, Cuba, Thailand, Granada (didn't we invade them?).

Locking up people for a joint and pleading down a previous gun charge that results in someone getting a firearm aren’t the same.

So it sounds like mental health is a large issue that guns and the people who fetishize the "gun death" numbers are exacerbating it.
 
A gun is just a tool. If a killer doesn't have access to one they will use other means. I personally prefer death by a firearm than a botched hanging or woodchipper insertion.
