Only 3 percent of Russians believe that government officials submit trustworthy income declarations every year, according to an independent Levada Center survey. The 2018 declaration showed President Vladimir Putin earning 8.6 million rubles ($134,000), or less than half of what he earned in 2017. Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev’s yearly pay rose to 9.9 million rubles ($154,000). A mere 3 percent said they believe that civil servants declare the entirety of their incomes and assets, according to results published by Levada on Tuesday.

Another 11 percent said that government officials declare “most” of their wealth, according to Levada’s poll results. A combined 77 percent said civil servants declare either a “small” or “negligible” part of their incomes and assets. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov defended the income declarations on Tuesday, telling reporters that “it’s a complicated system.” “Perhaps there’s not enough information about how it’s verified, but this is the system that’s built and it works,” he was quoted as saying by Interfax.

Forbes estimates that Vladimir Putin has plundered Russia to the tune of $200 billion and is the worlds richest person. His money is laundered via offshore shell companies and real-estate deals. The rest of Putin's government (the siloviki) also plunder Russia and live in mansions near Moscow, purchase Russian companies, purchase the worlds largest luxury yachts, buy valuable seaside real estate in Italy and Spain, buy expensive condos in the US and UK, and send their kids to school in the West. According to the poll, only 3 of every 100 Russians believe in their government's phony asset declaration statements.

Interesting dismissive reply from the article:

“it’s a complicated system.” “Perhaps there’s not enough information about how it’s verified, but this is the system that’s built and it works,”

Translation: It is what it is, bugger off.

The Klepocracy chugs on. That 77% number of them believing that they declare only a small or neglible amount of their wealth. I wonder if this correlates with stronger support for Putin, which I think his approval rating is in the 30s, so maybe that would be a portion of that.

That is 97% not believing in the phony asset declarations. The 3% that do.... that's probably siloviki family members.

Putin's popularity rating is less than Trumps. That's usually a tip-off that he will start something new somewhere, or increase the military pressure on Ukraine.

Yes, but 20 something percent think they are only lying a little. That to me sounds like Putin's base, not too dissinilar to Trump's base.
