The USA Constitution was written for a different quality of people.
If the author of the 2nd Amendment (Madison?) could see how it has worked out he would admit that it was a dire blunder.

The blunder was not in the Amendment, but in how the Supreme Court interpreted it.

This was from a few days ago but haven’t seen a post about it.

The murder of 23-year-old Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska on a train in North Carolina last month has sparked ongoing concerns about crime in the US.
A video released on Friday by the Charlotte Area Transit System shows Ms Zarutska seated on a train when she is stabbed from behind several times in what appears to be a random attack.

Random violence can obviously take a variety of forms other than guns.

"While both James Monroe and John Adams supported the Constitution being ratified, its most influential framer was James Madison. In Federalist No. 46, Madison wrote how a federal army could be kept in check by the militia, "a standing army ... would be opposed [by] militia." He argued that State governments "would be able to repel the danger" of a federal army, "It may well be doubted, whether a militia thus circumstanced could ever be conquered by such a proportion of regular troops."
Militias were meant to be a counter to a standing army, if needed.
