No hablo inglés?

Not a problem said Obama.

But now no ticky no laundry says DOT

FIRST ON THE DAILY SIGNAL—"Following new guidelines from Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy to enforce English language proficiency for commercial truck drivers, 1,500 drivers have had their licenses placed out of service by law enforcement, The Daily Signal has learned.

“‘America First’ means safety first. Americans are a lot safer on roads alongside truckers who can understand and interpret our traffic signs,” Duffy said in May at the signing of the guidelines. “This commonsense change ensures the penalty for failure to comply is more than a slap on the wrist.”

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, a division of the Transportation Department, has had longstanding English-language proficiency requirements.

However, in 2016, the Obama administration directed the agency not to enforce the English proficiency requirement."

Like we don't have enough American truckers to do the long hauls anymore?

Sounds to me like in this booming economy (thanks to Trump's trade activities) if we don't have enough truck drivers then we have a new field of employment for Americans who need jobs. Student loans should be made available for citizens who want to learn to drive a big-rig.

Hell yeah. More economic damage caused by Trump.
Being an American rightist today seems kinda like being a European in the 15th century, insisting that the Earth is the centre of the universe.
"But long-haul truckers in Europe often drive in countries where they can't speak the language but know what the road signs mean!"
"Doesn't matter! You're in America, you speak American or you go home and don't come back!"

Maybe Americans ought to hang out at border crossings like Latinos at Walmart waiting for a Mexican trucker to pull over and hand him the keys.

This is old law. We're not repealing it any time soon. We're not going to get the courts to say that Trump can't undo Obama's change in interpretation. The only opposition you can make is watch how this is being enforced. With America's now even further reduced educational system, do white drivers really know how to read well enough? Is this a test requirement being imposed on Latinos with accents only? Watch for it.

Having all truck drivers being able to read the signs on the road is not going to cause "more economic" damage.

How are Trump's trade activities making the economy boom?

What are you referring to when you assert "America's reduced educational system?"

Have public schools been closed nation-wide for some reason? Are Colleges and Universities ceasing to exist? Or are you just referring to the near-elimination of the Dept. of Education, which had little to do with direct education, but a lot to do with pushing ideology instead of fundamentals of a good education.

As far as I am concerned, our Schools are better off without that Dept. of Re-Education/Indoctrination.

I believe that one of the reasons that so many white Republican men grew so angry is because tons of them are mediocre.

We don’t. Long haul trucking has a lot of turnover for a good reason. Trucking is not an easy job or something that just anyone can do. No one is clamoring to be a trucker. It is not seen as an easy or rewarding career. It is a fantasy to think that it will ever be a popular job choice.

Also, the economy is not booming.

Says the guy who has probably been chauffered everywhere and doesn't have a clue what traffic signs look like. My spouse and I have driven in several countries where English was not spoken and were able to understand traffic signs and signals, long before they were adopted in the U.S.

Since when do any truckers drive safely? It sure as heck has nothing to do with proficiency in English. It has everything to do with the demands of the job for speed at the expense of safety.

Isn't it interesting how the legislation passes in a bipartisan manner, then Democrats "sanctuary" or refuse to enforce the parts they agreed to in that bipartisan manner, and then call anyone who does enforce those laws a fascist and a dictator?

Even now with ICE and detainment and deportations, they are just enforcing the laws. These are bipartisan laws. The people who refuse to honor those laws are the tyrants.

I have a family member who would take advantage of this yesterday. He can drive but does not currently have a CDL.

This is actually what is supposed to happen with border crossings. It's funny you mock what is in fact, reality.

This is a good thing. Commercial trucks weigh massive amounts. They have far more regulations than regular cars. They have so much regulation because if they are not run right, people die.

Companies will pay for the training then you go to work for them after completion.

I'm all for safety on the road. I'm sure someone can show me the statistics linking language proficiency and accident rate. Sounds interesting. Thanks in advance.

I just checked on it for my brother. The variables have improved.

The level of idiocy is astounding and even more than I expected at the advent of this administration. You have the absurdity of the OP celebrating it as if this is a good thing when I'm sure the employers will not think so. There's already been a truck driver shortage, which is why migrants have been a viable substitution for the lack of drivers. One of the main issues with the shortage is a workforce of older drivers retiring and not enough young drivers to backfill.

Added to the risk of going into this area of work is the looming threat of automation which is becoming more real for long haul trucking. But sure, "YAY!" to reducing the amount of truckers who deliver goods. This is right in line with cheering for tariffs that raise prices.
🤭

If American citizens couldn't read the road signs that would endanger our citizens, or anyone for that matter, the anti-Trumps would be all over this.
1) They don't like this because a president they detest decided to address a problem.
2) Don't ever believe they care about others put in danger.

Would you put your 16-year-old child on the road knowing they couldn't read traffic signs?

Imagine thinking you're defending a target's action by citing that target's claim that the action is proper.

Have you ever driven in a country where you didn't know the language? My guess is no, because if you did you'd realize how ridiculous your post is.
