These are two of the largest, but there are many other such websites, plus thousands of gun stores independent websites. Nearly all sell "assault" weapons and high capacity magazines. Only firearms go through gun dealers and background checks. Magazines and components do not. they are just mailed directly to the buyer.

Do anti-gunners want online sales websites like these shut down?

Its not just magazines that can be bought online without a background check:

"

Gun sales without background check easy on Internet, mayors group says

"The Internet has become a convenient marketplace for illegal gun sales.

That's the conclusion of an undercover investigation commissioned by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg's office into online gun sales on 10 websites in 14 states, including Ohio.

Investigators contacted 27 unlicensed dealers in Ohio and found that 10 agreed to sell guns to prospective buyers who said they would likely fail a background check, according to a news release from Mayors Against Illegal Guns, a coalitions of some 600 mayors across the country.

Investigators asked to meet five of the 10 sellers in person, and bought four handguns and an assault rifle with cash. (See Youtube video of an Ohio sting.)

By law, only licensed gun dealers must perform background checks on their customers, but unlicensed dealers are prohibited from selling guns to customers if they think they couldn't pass such a check, said Mark Glaze, director of Mayors Against Illegal Guns, a coalitions of some 600 mayors across the country.

Mayors of more than 50 Ohio cities, including Cleveland, Columbus and Cincinnati, belong to the coalition, which supports a bill in Congress to close a loophole that allows private gun sales without background checks."

Bloomberg is a pathological liar. If that happened there would have been arrests by the BATF. That didn't happen, so Bloomberg's claim is a bald faced lie.

It is a clever blending of facts to fabricate a grotesque lie. Private sales are not illegal. The article tries to present it though this was some sting investigation proving illegal activity that was not illegal at all.

The only time we've read of illegal gun transactions leading to murder is the anti-gun Obama administration's "fast and furious" illegal sales to drug dealers and gangsters in a failed attempt to falsely try to tag gun dealers for it - when in fact the MASTERMIND illegal gun dealer was his A.G. Holder and himself.

The only law that need be passed is one outlawing presidents and their cabinette members from selling weapons to drug dealers and gang members.

The only law that need be passed about gun sales is criminalizing presidents and their cabinette members from selling guns to foreign drug dealers and gang members to get Americans killed. Currently that is apparently legal. But, then, Obama is the first president to get for himself the authority to order any American summarily assassinated.

"Private unlicensed gun dealers were captured on video selling weapons to undercover investigators who admitted they couldn't pass background checks in a sting operation by Mayor Michael Bloomberg to highlight the "gun show loophole."

Yeah, yeah, yeah - Bloomberg's staff called each other and some stupid scripted stunt.

If it happened and with the influence of Bloomberg, there would be a follow up to actually buy the firearm and then arrest the seller. Since that apparently did NOT happen, this all is a huge manipulated lie.

Regardless, since it is already illegal passing a law making something illegal illegal is just an absurdity.

There was no arrest, so this was just Bloomberg staff phoning Bloomberg staff, nothing else.

I could make a video of phones calls to so-called Bloomberg staff "proving" his many of his staff are selling cocaine and meth using his "proof."

The video, if not staged, simply proves that illegal gun sales happen and therefore illegal gun sales will continue. So will illegal drug sales.

As noted, New York investigators did not have authority to make arrest for federal crimes.

So, let's see who to believe? New York police investigators with both audio and video evidence, or the unsubstantiated opinion of a guy on a political forum? Like about 80% - 90% of the country that support background checks for all gun sales, I've got to go with the investigators.

The BATF, federal AG and the FBI does, it is a Democrat administration, so there was NOTHING blocking arrest and prosecution.

As for the video, all it shows is that making something illegal doesn't stop it - so it disproves what he is calling for. He just disproved himself.

Filtering 100% of gun sales thru dealers will just institutionalize illegal gun sales in a greater, organized manner. Like drug kingpins, their will be illegal gun dealer kingpins with all the corruption of law enforcement, imprisonments and innocent deaths that come along with it.

Now? Now there is economic incentive to have illegal gun seller organizations on any large scale, since private gun sales are legal and therefore little margin of profit in illegal sales.

Of course the government wants a hand in it - like everything. Every reason to have more police, more agencies, and more staff. Drug laws have been a massive employment boom for the government and all the industries the feed and feed off of it. ANYTHING the government outlaws results in innocent deaths, police corruption, and more Americans in prison, plus most lose of rights to Big Brother.

The cheesy black and white telephone call videos really is just a cheesy stunt developed by the FBI for psychological persuasion of juries. They deliberately use cheap B&W cameras to make it look seedy. Only really tiny little brain sheeple believe that NYC government doesn't have quality color cameras.

It's just cheap stunts that could be done for ANYTHING.

This could be done for personal listings, proving criminals uses personal and romance websites to find victims - demanding background checks and posting a federal or state license number before a person could post on or respond to one.

Or prove in seedy OMG! B&W footage people getting robbed when they show up to buy something on eBay - demanding background checks and a middleman poster before listing or buying anything on line.

The same for email accounts. Newspaper ads. Posting a website.

Only really tiny, tiny brained little sheople are influenced by such cheesy tactics.

The issues are the issues. But only really stupid people who fall for such cheap, cheesy PR stunts as you in your message indicate you are so convinced something has been proven, when people will do illegal things is just a truism about anything and most other people realize that.

Yes and the fools running them belong in the 47% so their votes can be bought and paid for like the rest. (sarcasm)

the anti-gun brigade has little problem with this government engaging in, or sanctioning, illegal firearms trafficking... so your law will never see the light of day.

Catawba has stated that he wants to end gun ownership in the USA: he also wants all these new laws. Logically, one has to assume that he sees these new laws as getting closer to his goal of a complete ban

Thanks for the far right opinion. I think I will go with the experts and common sense.

So how many of those cases were referred to the federal authorities? How many arrests and prosecutions took place?

Link to the ATF investigation report, "Following the Gun: Enforcing Federal Laws Against Firearms Traffickers" at the bottom of this site:
Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence : Studies

"Gun shows. Gun shows were a major trafficking channel, involving the second highest number of
trafficked guns per investigation (more than 130), and associated with approximately 26,000
illegally diverted firearms. The investigations involved both licensed and unlicensed sellers at gun
shows.

Straw purchasers. Straw purchasing was the most common channel in trafficking investigations.
Almost half of all the trafficking investigations involved straw purchasers. Therefore, although
the average number of firearms trafficked per straw purchase investigation was relatively small,
37 firearms, there were nearly 26,000 firearms associated with these investigations.

Unlicensed sellers. Unlicensed sellers were a focus of about a fifth of the trafficking investigations,
and involved an average of about 75 guns per investigation and almost 23,000 guns. Unlicensed
sellers range from individuals who knowingly sell guns to criminals from their personal collections
to interstate gun runners buying guns to sell to gangs and drug organizations."

So the point to this is what? That there is a black market for guns?

Okay, so how do you propose to stop that?

He proposes to move the black market out of the gun shows and back on to the streets where they were before the gun shows.

That isn't going to stop illegal sales. Keep in mind an in state person to person sale is legal and that the 40% number we have been fed lately is a stat from 1993 or 4, based on a survey of 251 people, 36% of which said they had purchased privately, the number rounded up to 40%. And it doesn't mean 36% of guns were bought this way, it means 36% of those people (251 isn't much of a sample considering the millions of guns in this country) have bought at least 1 this way. I currently own 11, all purchased using using the 4473 form. I had one (that has since been traded) that was a private buy. So one of twelve of mine was private sale, but with the way this old, small and inaccurate survey was presented it would assume all of mine were privately bought. Statistics are funny things. They can be twisted to mean whatever you want them to mean.

I don't propose to stop it, just make it harder and more expensive for criminals to buy guns. That is the point! And an overwhelming majority of the country agree with that point!

okay, and how are you going to make it harder? How are you going to hamper that black market?

By requiring background checks for all gun sales at the easiest, cheapest places for criminals to buy guns in 40 states.
