Alberto Reyes Pías, a priest of the Archdiocese of Camagüey, strongly criticized the emotional manipulation and "control through hope" that the Cuban government has practiced to maintain its power for over six decades.

In a reflection published on Facebook, Father Reyes criticized the regime's systematic strategy to keep the people subdued: promising without delivering, feeding false hopes, and indefinitely postponing any real improvements in daily life.

Priest Alberto Reyes proposes that the people assume the responsibility of seeking their own freedom, even at the expense of facing reprisals, and encourages action and solidarity among citizens. Basically, he is calling for action of the Cuban people again the regime.

Alberto Reyes Pías, a priest of the Archdiocese of Camagüey, strongly criticized the emotional manipulation and "control through hope" that the Cuban government has practiced to maintain its power for over six decades.

In a reflection published on Facebook, Father Reyes criticized the regime's systematic strategy to keep the people subdued: promising without delivering, feeding false hopes, and indefinitely postponing any real improvements in daily life.

"What has Cuba been since the days of the Sierra Maestra?" he asks. His answer is devastating: Only promises. From the dream of being a "medical powerhouse" to that of being "the most educated people in the world," it has all been an endless chain of unfulfilled commitments that have only served to stifle discontent and prevent the citizenry from taking control of their own destiny.

The Catholic priest Alberto Reyes posted a message on Facebook addressing the "transgenerational legacy" that weighs on Cuban society, characterized by a culture of fear, subjugation, and political immobility.

Reyes argues that young people have inherited a very harmful way of life, with submission as a form of security, indoctrination as culture, aggression towards dissenters as a heroic act, precarious living as a virtue of resilience, and emigration as a solution to their problems.

Father Alberto Reyes message to young people is that the Castroist communist regime relies on empty promises. That they have been infuse with many fears. He raise the question why it have to be this way.? Sociaty can be change. He knows young people can be a generation of change. He tell them that patriotism is not silence or submission, it is freedom, the right to dissent. Freedom is not free, it require ongoing effort and sacrifice.
 
Father Alberto Reyes has been a critical and supportive voice for students. He has praised the courage of university students and has denounced the repressive tactics of the Cuban government. Reyes believes that the protests are a reflection of the true power of the people and has called for unity and peaceful protest as forms of resistance.
