Now the shooter is talking about a “doppleganger”. This likely means that the dude was just plain nuts and that previous speculation about ideology probably means little.

Given how this is going tomorrow, information about him changes every day and are taking some pretty wild swings. Who know, he may be Muslim or something tomorrow as he went from gamer to groyper to portably just plain crazy.
 
It's that online trolling/nihilism culture.

Everybody is yelling about political rhetoric but these social media algorithms are sending teenagers to places a lot darker than any mainstream rhetoric. The ones that already have issues they need to work on turn into 20 something year old young men that are angry and apathetic about life.

It's going to get a lot worse.

Guess what though, META and Google are making bank as they get more engagement.
 

I saw some of that convo. It looks like kids joshing each other, with the shooter trying to take part, wanting to deny blame, but being unable to directly do so due to the unspoken rules of those kinds of discussions.

We should get a fuller picture as this unfolds - the family's account that he had swung angry left strikes me as the most credible source at current, but we will also see what comes out the roomate(s), his internet history, etc.

Doesn't that depend on the assumption that he actually believed he had not done it and that a "doppelganger" had?

To me it sounds like a sloppy and incredibly unartful attempt at pre-emptively throwing people off the trail.

Sounds pretty normal to say as I have also noticed how "angry the left" has swung since Trump's second term. They seem to be ramping up the hate at levels we have never seen before.

Utah's governor is trying to basterdize the shooter in the media, saying the guy is 'not cooperating,' is gay, not republican, not Mormon, not conservative, blah, blah, blah. It is important to make the accused as unappealing to Utah juries as possible.

He reportedly had a high IQ and his ACT scores revealed he was in the upper 1%. He definitely seems to have a messiah complex, wanting to right what he perceived as wrong.

Anger is the hallmark of those who feel entitled to holding all or most of the power. When things slip, and they don't get their way, the frustration boils into rage. I suspect this was the case with Charlie's assassin.

I do not believe this man was a groyper and only because of the transgendering roommate said to be his partner, but I'll also add that I think your idea of him being a doppelganger might have merit.

Hillary and Harris didn't lie about the election being stolen. While Trump did, leading to massive amounts of hate.

One can be both alt-right and be into transgender. That’s not a disqualifier as things in the deep dark internet don’t map cleanly to the ideologies often discussed on the board.

Also I don’t think he is a doppelgänger, reread the op if you missed that very basic detail.

I think the killer is aware that he can cause a lot of harm to the left and chaos if he says he is left-wing. I wouldn't take it at face value.
 
It's have been a lot of talks about the problem with echo chambers. While it is also about what kind of echo chamber. That there are too many echo chambers that's about radicalizing and hate today. So it's not only about daring to go outside your echo chambers but also the quality of echo chambers. When it comes to reducing radicalizing, violence and hate.

That more places like Bluesky are needed where you can build movements, have fun and have interesting discussions.

Or it could be he is "not cooperating" because he won't say he's a radical trans activist.

Either way the whole Doppelganger thing is dumb, but who knows if it's actually some kind of meme that makes sense on 4chan.
 
The young man is probably seriously mentally ill.

In that case, his politics is no more than froth on the surface of the internal storm. There's no point trying to make it consistent. And there's no point trying to nail him to one political stance or another for the purposes of blaming other people with similar politics.
