    Why do we give sentences over 80 years?

    As said above it has to do with the good behavior laws and such. Just as if someone gets 12 years for drug trafficing, that usually means 2-4 years in jail with the rest in differed sentincing. Which means, they will spend 2-4 years in jail then be on probation for 8-10 years.
