    Pretty much what we already do now. Would really only increasing the currently-arbitrary standard deduction to something less-arbitrary like a median cost of living based on some resident state formula. Would be much better for lower income groups.

    I mean, you'll probably get away with it. But it'd be easy for the IRS to send you a letter since you haven't filed that 1099-NEC. At 10k in self-employment income, your SE tax liability is in the $1500 range.

    You should file a return and pay Self-Employment tax. Not doing so subjects you to penalties and interest. You usually must pay self-employment tax if you had net earnings from self-employment of $400 or more...
