    Russians pray for global warming.

Well, the fact that the climate is warming on average is an undeniable fact. Whether or not this is man-made is another issue, but the problem is there and it would be nice to do something about it!

    US Debt=$222+Trillion

Perhaps the fact that all countries are having a hard time recovering from this recession is down to the nature of the recession, including the way in which it hit rich countries already deeply in debt, and the way it hit at a time when demographic changes were likely to slow economic growth anyway?

    Campaign Spending

Well, mad is the wrong word, since it doesn't affect me. But it does perplex me. Of course money will always have a place, but that doesn't mean we should allow it untramelled control over the political system. America has always had the problem that money means power, but this law literally...

    Campaign Spending

Not because you feel it's wrong, but because it's fundamentally undemocratic. And it wasn't constitutional for the last 300 years...

    Campaign Spending

SuperPACs spent a vast amount of money in the last election, thanks to a ruling from the Supreme Court which essentially removed all restrictions on campaign spending. I realise this is old news, but I wanted to gauge your opinions on this. Does anyone support this ruling?

How does universal health care limit your freedom?

Oh, well I meant Texas State is not comparable to Germany, the state. Interesting. It may indeed be a mentality thing, and yes the whole point of UHC is prevention. Which, as you say, leads to lower costs in the long-run. I do believe, though, if the US govt offered free screenings to all...

How does universal health care limit your freedom?

States means different things in different places ;). Of course, one has to focus on the rich world countries, and although some systems are not exactly brilliant (ie ours in the UK), they are still cheaper and more accessible than the American system, as has been proven time and time again. But...

How does universal health care limit your freedom?

'They', being 192 separate states, each with a slightly different system? Nevermind that America has been shown time and time again to have... rather lacking healthcare...

Restricting freedoms, where is the liberal outrage?

$2 billion, tops. Sure, Congress weren't consulted, but compared to what George Bush did it's not such a big deal, and you got a lot more for your money (ie the removal of the dictator, a boost to the West's prestige, the savings of thousands of lives, the avoidance of a Syria-like situation...

Restricting freedoms, where is the liberal outrage?

So you're going to compare the imposition of a no-fly zone for a few months over Libya (which, by the way, was led by Britain and France) with the ten year occupation of Afghanistan...? Hmm...

Gun Control? It's not about guns, it's about Control

If you say so. It's not an opinion that a militia hasn't been needed to protect against government tyranny, but whatever you want...

Restricting freedoms, where is the liberal outrage?

Starting a war is different to trying to win it. Running deficits in boomtimes is very different to in a depresssion. Obama hasn't closed Guantanamo either... But whatever, I'm not part of 'The Left'.

Gun Control? It's not about guns, it's about Control

Firstly, people will not rise up and use violent force to counteract 'overweening' government legislation. Or they would have when the PATRIOT Act was passed, instead of just complaining about it. I skimmed through the article - James Madison seems to be saying that the combined American...

Gun Control? It's not about guns, it's about Control

In the eighteenth century, the United States was a fragile concept surrounded by imperialist powers on all sides, all of whom would have loved to see the back of such a system. As a result, this state, which had no professional army, needed a militia to protect itself from foreign occupation...

Gun Control? It's not about guns, it's about Control

Just because it says it in the Constitution, doesn't make it true. It may have been in the context of the 18th Century, but it isn't today.
