    Questions about Buddhism? Ask away!

Buddhism doesn't really have any use for gods. But, Buddhists believe that some are reborn as animals. And the first Buddhist ethical precept is to do no harm to any sentient being. Buddhists value all life, which is why Buddhism denounces things such as abortion, war, and capital punishment.

    Questions about Buddhism? Ask away!

I find it hilarious that you assume that you know me, what I know, and why I converted. I've been a student of both religion and philosophy for as long as I can remember. And my reasons for converting were completely philosophical and spiritual. Now, I'm not sure what the point is of calling...

    Questions about Buddhism? Ask away!

I'm a western Buddhist, but I'm not sure what you mean by 'new age'. I don't really like any of the changes that have taken place to Buddhism since it entered the west, although I'm not completely opposed to them, either. I, as of yet, have had no teacher. I've been a solitary practioner for...

    Questions about Buddhism? Ask away!

Next time, learn to actually pay attention to what you're reading, if you can. I said "to the best of my knowledge". I never said that Buddhism was never in any way, shape, or form not involved. I'm quite aware, that in Buddhism's recent past, the religion has been tied to certain governments...

    Pat Robertson challenges YEC

I didn't, until earlier in the year when he said that marijuana should be legalized. This made me perk up my ears a little bit in his direction. Something odd is going on in his head, and I'm starting to get curious as to what that is.

Pat Robertson challenges creationism – CNN Belief Blog - CNN.com Blogs From the article: Pat Robertson, the popular evangelical Christian pastor, directly challenges young earth creationism, coming close to challenging creationism itself. Will other Christian evangelicals follow suit? Does...

    Questions about Buddhism? Ask away!

Buddhism, to the best of my knowledge, has never been the direct cause of any wars. It's unfortunate, however, that Buddhists have had to fight wars, but in many places in Southeast Asia, where Buddhism is the predominant religion, it happens.

Saying "Christmas" Instead of "Happy Holidays"

I think it's incredibly inane by anyone being offended by either phrase. If someone says to me "Merry Christmas", I say it back. If someone says "Happy Holidays", I say that back. It doesn't matter either way to me. There's more than just Christmas during this season. Some are religious...

    What has creationism given us?

I've posed the germ theory on religious forums to creationists, with no answer. The Bible says that disease is caused by sin and the wrath of god, so why do they not fight against it? I haven't gotten an answer yet, but I'm still hoping.

    What has creationism given us?

Except things like I already pointed out, as well as Somerville. And evolution says nothing on whether a deity exits or not. Surely you're aware the the majority of the world's Christians believe in theistic evolution? Creationism is actually a more modern aberration of something Christians...

    What has creationism given us?

By creationists insisting that creationism is science, that is what they are aiming for. If they want it to be the replacement for evolution, then they have to give scientific reasons why that should be the case.

    What has creationism given us?

Ok, let's quit redefining terms to play games. There's a difference between creationism and theistic evolution. When I say 'creationist', I actually mean a creationist: someone who believes that an almighty god created everything in six days, around six thousand years ago.
