    Oil Industry and Subsidies

My only disagreement with your post being the oil industry receiving no unique deductions. If you like I can list them. Immediate return of capital rather than amortizing those costs can be construed as a positive if everyone is playing by the same rules but comparing effective tax rates between...

    Oil Industry and Subsidies

The oil industry does have a variety of beneficial tax accounting code specific and unique to that industry which are clearly identified as government subsidies. They're operating deductions primarily grouped around taking expenses in a fiscal year against income as versus standard procedure for...

    21st century central problem

If labor, legal or illegal, is willing to accept those wages why are you defining them as substandard? Does supply and demand not enter your wage equation? Aside from service industry workers (so far) US employers are attempting to compete with global wage scales, a US social safety net that...

Does anyone ACTUALLY think you can get deficit/debt under control w/o tax increases?

Re: Does anyone ACTUALLY think you can get deficit/debt under control w/o tax increas As there's no link, it appears that your DoD number excludes VA, war portion of debt interest, DoE nuclear, 50% of NASA, portion of State Department and non-budgeted war costs for Afghanistan/Iraq (in 2009...

President Celebrates Memorial Day By Playing 70th Round of Golf

The last time my freedoms were protected by the military was WW2. Since then it turned into a bloated tool of intervention for special interest purposes while gobbling up the major portion of tax revenue and debt proceeds. Some sacrifice. Go hide in a hole if you feel your freedom is threatened...

US has the lowest effective tax rate in the industrialised world

A spending side analysis, in my opinion, being the most difficult piece for US analysis. Politics being what they are 'official' funding allocations or budget items in many instances seemingly have little relation to where actual spending is accomplished. It would take a truly dedicated soul...

US has the lowest effective tax rate in the industrialised world

You're referring to effective rates, not nominal? Percentage of GDP appears to be a common comparison to all but blind partisans.

US has the lowest effective tax rate in the industrialised world

In many instances it isn't a valid comparison given the amount of national wealth and revenue the US devotes to maintaining and growing its 'defense' industry. Other countries seem to concentrate more resources on maintaining a broader spectrum of their citizenry.

US has the lowest effective tax rate in the industrialised world

Regarding impact of a VAT on lower income individuals, those European counties employing it have a much broader and deeper range of state benefits to offset it than does the US. The US ranks near the bottom of the list in social services as a percentage of GDP for developed countries, which is...

US has the lowest effective tax rate in the industrialised world

No. Our political system is so corrupted special interests would quickly force it to find ways around a VAT. I believe rates in our current system need to be raised to meet obligations.

US has the lowest effective tax rate in the industrialised world

You might want to look at this link, it lists all federal revenue and outlay by year as a percentage of GDP. Table 1.3. The US, despite partisan rantings regarding high nominal tax rates, has one of the lowest effective tax rates of any developed nation. We're paying the price by borrowing money...

    Palin 2012

A return to the pre-1980s US consumer products manufacturing base simply isn't going to happen until US labor costs are more in line with future advances by developing countries, regardless of who holds political office. US tariff legislation was dismantled and a trade war instigated by a debtor...

President Celebrates Memorial Day By Playing 70th Round of Golf

Blind partisanship, including worship of a military tasked to political intervention and human slaughter in third-world countries over the past half-century, doesn't require any critical thinking or facts.
