(CNN) -- No charges were filed against George Zimmerman after an alleged altercation with his estranged wife and her father, Lake Mary, Florida, Police Chief Steve Bracknell said Monday."Shellie Zimmerman has declined prosecution (after consulting with her attorney)," Bracknell said.

Police answered a 911 call from Shellie Zimmerman on Monday afternoon during which she said George Zimmerman had threatened her and her father with a weapon. Officers detained George Zimmerman but never arrested him, police said. Detectives later came to the home to interview him.

The question of the gun became confused later when police told reporters there was no gun involved, but George Zimmerman's attorney told CNN's Anderson Cooper 360 that he believed his client had a firearm on him.

"He acted appropriately. He never took the weapon out," said Mark O'Mara, who is also a CNN legal analyst. O'Mara said he never saw the gun.

Zimmerman's wife files for divorce

When asked Monday night by CNN for clarification about the gun, a spokesman for O'Mara's law firm, Shawn Vincent, said there was no update yet.
The incident stemmed from a visit by Shellie Zimmerman, who filed for divorce last week, and her father, David Bryant Dean. They came to the house the couple used to share to pick up some of her belongings.
George Zimmerman and his wife texted Monday morning, and she told him she was going over to the house, according to a person with whom the family shared the photos of the texts.
George Zimmerman came to the house with a friend of his and got into a heated discussion with Dean, O'Mara said.
During the altercation, Zimmerman smashed his wife's iPad.
Shellie Zimmerman called police as George Zimmerman sat in his truck with his friend.
On the 911 call, Shellie Zimmerman is breathing heavily when she tells a dispatcher that Zimmerman is still at the house.
"He's in his car and he continually has his hand on his gun, and he's saying, 'Step closer.' He's just threatening all of us with his firearm," she says.
Shellie Zimmerman also tells 911 that George Zimmerman punched her father in the nose, then smashed her iPad before getting in his truck. "I don't know what he's capable of. I'm really, really scared," she says.

The incident comes two months after Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch volunteer, was found not guilty of murder in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin in Sanford, Florida.

O'Mara said, "There was heightened emotion, and a disagreement took place."

O'Mara said Shellie Zimmerman no longer lives at the house, which is owned by her father.

After he was initially detained by officers, George Zimmerman was interviewed at the house by detectives, Lake Mary police spokesman Zach Hudson said.

Zimmerman had offered to turn over surveillance tapes from security cameras at the house to investigators.

Shellie Zimmerman called 911 just after 2 p.m. ET, Bracknell said earlier.

Much ado about nothing.

not so certain, maggie

zimmerman has been pulled over twice for speeding since his acquittal
either he is seeking attention or he is defiant of the law
is he in a funk now that his 15 minutes of infamy is up?
did the acquittal make him believe that he can now violate the law and get away with it?

but none of us were in the room with zimmerman, his wife, and father in law
even tho it is the father in law's house, it is zimmerman's home - and he is entitled to quiet enjoyment
he had no obligation to allow the father in law and estranged spouse inside
was he provoked? was he the provocateur? all we know is that shelly and her father chose not to seek prosecution of zimmerman
that dude needs to find a new place to live. pronto
with any luck, he will soon realize that shelly's filing for divorce was a huge favor

This crap happens all the time when there's a divorce in progress and one spouse returns to the home to collect their things. Cops are glad to accompany people when they do that -- and they should be called upon to do so. Tempers are short . . . one word leads to another . . . and a ruckus ensues.

No surprise there. Same old same old.

If you've ever been in real, honest-to-God stress in your life, you know that your head's up your ass about half the time. And GZ is under stress. Give he guy a BREAK re a warning and a ticket. Jesus.

As to GZ and his ex? No news there. Happens all the damned time. She should have taken a police escort with her. Her dad? Really? Good choice.

My wife has done that twice in one day and she has never been on trial. People speed, it happens. To hold this up as an example of him taunting the law or any such nonsense is just over-sensationalism.

Much ado about nothing.

That depends on if he destroyed her property and punched her father in the nose. You shouldn't be able to do either of those things with impunity. I don't care if you are George Zimmerman.

No charges filed. No arrest made.

Typical in-the-middle-of-a-divorce ****.

That doesn't mean it didn't happen. Doesn't mean it did either...

If it went down like the 911 call it would be REALLY bad for any pending civil suits.

And shellie wants money, not Z permanently destitute.

If he doesn't win immunity from civil proceedings, getting popped for brandishing would be terrible for his chances of successfully defending himself.

did your wife soon thereafter threaten you and your dad, while in possession of a weapon?
the guy has the best defense attorney in the nation. appears he will continue to require his services

Where's the charges? Oh, you mean there are none? Is it possible that a wife who is divorcing her husband might fabricate a more threatening story in order to gain an upper hand in the divorce proceedings?

If he did threaten her and her dad, he would be in jail. He's not. The guy has been found not guilty, get over it.

that's quite possible
just as it is possible that zimmerman reacted in a hotheaded manner

no. she and her father decided not to prosecute. does not mean he did not act inappropriately

The guy has been found not guilty, get over it.
and that was the correct finding
buy a clue. in that matter it is quite possible zimmerman acted inappropriately ... only there was inadequate evidence to convict

One thing people have to remember is that this is the wife of George Zimmerman. Not to be mean but a guy who can't keep a job and has been working for 6 years on a 2 year degree is not gong to be on the top shelf at the carnival for women looking for a husband.

She has been found to lie before and this may be another lie too. I don't think you can trust either Zimmerman.

I have no clue what really happened.

No clue what really happened.

New thread, new chance to say "Thank God they never had children'

She could have been ding this to beef up the divorce procedings.

She could have retracted because it means that he will be spending a metric asston of family assets and potential assets on lawyers.

He has one foot in the grave and one on a banana peel. I hope Karma hits the coward hard
