... Trump also proclaimed that he is an expert on drones during the briefing, baffling lawmakers, Durbin said. At one point, Trump told Pelosi she should support a wall because she was a “good Catholic,” according to people familiar with the exchange. The president also went off on seemingly unrelated topics, encouraging Schumer to read a letter sent to him by Kim Jong Un, as first reported by CNN, and then pulled it from his pocket, according to a person familiar with the meeting. ...

This is the normal behavior for our President that way too many of our voters and then Electoral College voted for. This is the kind of thing he did before during and after 2016 and I never understood the apologists for him before or after.

Tangent: yes, I specifically mentioned Electoral College because their whole existence is supposed to be the last line of defense to prevent unqualified individuals to be seated as the President. Clearly, that did not work. So we might as well just multiply each state's voting results by the multiplier for the respective state and be done with it.

My first thought was that Trump has dementia.

Nothing shocking. Typical Trump idiocy, if true.

Him carrying around a letter from KJU is weird, though.

It's not idiocy. You're more than free to call it insanity, but that ain't idiocy.

Ultimate tic-tac-toe is a game of confusion. In chess, there is but one battlefield. In ultimate tic-tac-toe, there are many, both local and global. Those battlefields interact with each other in weird and complicated ways. The local ones (recurring Twitter fights) bear little immediately obvious relationship to the global one (the welfare of the American people).

The net result: Even good ultimate tic-tac-toe play looks haphazard, facile and even plain stupid at first glance. There is no clear or elegant strategy.

None of this tic-tac-toe stuff is meant to diminish the complexities or subtleties of the current political moment. Chess is famously complex, of course — there are more possible chess games than atoms in the universe and so on. But ultimate tic-tac-toe is no slouch. To get a very rough upper bound for the number of possible games, we can imagine that there are 81 places the first move can go, then 80 places for the second, then 79, then 78 and so on. That leads us to the number 81!, or roughly 6 followed by 120 zeros.5 That’s incomprehensibly large (and doesn’t even take into consideration the game’s weird and complicated game tree). Even computers struggle to play it well.

So is Trump playing his game well or poorly? I have no idea. All I really know is: It ain’t chess. Please craft your takes accordingly.

So what's the point? Don't play chess with him, because that's not what he's playing. Also, don't play Ultimate Tic Tac Toe, because he's probably a lot better at that. In conclusion, play your own game altogether.
