Youngkin signs executive orders banning critical race theory, lifting mask mandate in Virginia public schools

"Virginia's Republican Gov. Glenn Youngkin signed 11 executive orders on his first day in office, including one lifting a mask mandate in public schools and another banning the teaching of critical race theory, both issues Youngkin campaigned on."

What a great start!!!!! Unmask our school children!

Yes, it's back to business, back to work, back to school and get on living America!!! More and more is coming out in how they used a pandemic for devious reasons.....vote them out, regain your independence and make the federal government take their big fat hands off of State authority and power....for it's not their's to have. Good job.

I have my independence. What are you talking about?

CRT aka "history," banned again.

I see a bigger political future for Youngkin in the years to come.

So we are 8 pages in and nobody seems to be able to show why the party of limited government is again making additional regulations for a problem that in no way exists. Why is that?

CRT was mentioned several times on the Virginia's government web site. Good riddance. Better yet, he's taken down the "equity and inclusion" content which is just another name for systemic racism. When you see euphemisms like that, you know it hides racist ideology.

I linked to this fact earlier in the thread so that those who keep saying it wasn't there can stop spreading misinformation. To be more precise, CRT was mentioned on the VA. Department of Education website. Post #37

Critical race theory is, of course, stupid nonsense and Democrats who deny its existence or downplay it aren't doing themselves any favors.

What Democrat said CRT doesn't exist? Of course it exists. But it is a college-level theory. And while cons may find a couple anecdotes out there, it is not some nationwide public education crisis. My god, in my decade+ of teaching I've never encountered the term 'critical race theory' at my high school, but I have witnessed at least a couple aides tell the students that evolution is a lie as well as a 3rd grade teacher hold prayer sessions with some of her students.

So you link us to a page that no longer exists as proof the VDOE 'mentioned' CRT, without any specifics and without any context. Gotcha.

Our history curriculum mentions communism, fascism and socialism. I guess they're promoting those theories?

It isn't always referred to with that name, and it isn't always taught from A to Z as an entire ideology. It's more that bits and pieces of it get incorporated into the larger narrative of history, often without the teacher even knowing where it came from.

And it's not necessarily a bad thing that this happens. After all, ideologies can be mostly wrong but still have some useful fragments here and there.

I'm not a fan of banning it. But on the whole I think it's quite a toxic worldview.

Ah okay, so CRT is just teaching about certain events and terms that make certain people uncomfortable (and what events and terms count as 'CRT' is up for debate). Since when was history supposed to be comfortable?

I'm not sure where you got anything about comfort/discomfort from what I wrote...

Because this whole topic is about conservative snowflakes melting over any discussions of racism in our history.

Which school in VA was teaching CRT? For that matter, what school district anywhere in the US teaches CRT?
No the question should be why is the left so upset about it if was not happening?

So funny when people act like it is not happening!! 😜

Yes, I did offer context. Follow along. CRT is no longer mentioned on the VA. dept. of education website since Younkin took office, hence the first link. Now read the O/P again, where CRT is gone...

The second link proves CRT was once mentioned on the dept. of education website despite McAulliffe's lie that it was not.

Connect the dots, and happy reviewing.

Huh. I guess I'm in the wrong conversation then.

90% of Americans would not even know what CRT stands for if it weren't for the conservatives squealing, would you agree? I'm still unclear what specific topics are widely being brought up in classes that indicates students are being indoctrinated to hate white people. After all, that is clearly how conservatives seem to 'define' anything that is CRT or CRT-adjacent.

And what is the context of this mention? Where is the link of this mention?

I'm not about to explain anything to someone who is clearly not willing to admit that CRT was once listed on the VA. dept. of education website despite the fact that McAuliffe lied and said it wasn't. Nor am I willing to explain again that the new governor has eliminated any mention of CRT having a future in the commonwealth of VA. to those I know can read.

Good day.

I ask for context and you melt away like a snowflake. If you cannot provide the context then just admit it.
