HAVANA, Cuba, January 29 (Aini Martín Valero, ALAS /
Cubanet/index) – A few days ago a young person was expelled from the ranks of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), for being a homosexual.
Leandro Alfonso Ramirez known as Leo was separated from the PCC group which was active in the municipality of Regla. The 32 years old Leo was always a revolutionary and hid his homosexuality from fear of retaliation.
Only a month ago he confessed to his co-workers to be gay, but revolutionary. Leo says he feels betrayed by everything that he defended. He believes that he has been deceived and that the ideals of the Cuban Communist Party are false.
The National Center for Sex Education in Cuba (CENESEX), under the leadership of Raúl Castro's daughter, Mariela Castro Espin, has undertaken for some years a crusade against homophobia and the rights of homosexuals.
According to a report in the newspaper El Nuevo Herald, Castro Espin is preparing a letter to the leadership of the CPC where she will solicit that the members of the LGTB community are not discriminated by the Party.
