On the opening day of the Democratic National Convention, former Vice President Joe Biden, bolstered by the selection of California Sen. Kamala Harris as his running mate, has surged to an 11-point lead over President Trump, according to a Yahoo News/YouGov poll. It is Biden’s largest margin to date.

For months, Biden’s margin hovered in the high single digits. But according to a new Yahoo News/YouGov survey, which was conducted Aug. 14 and 15, Trump’s faltering coronavirus response and unpopular crusade against universal mail-in voting have further weakened his standing, propelling Biden to his first double-digit lead of the campaign.

Among registered voters, Biden now outpaces Trump 49 percent to 38 percent. Among likely voters, Biden is ahead 50 percent to 41 percent. In comparison, Hillary Clinton led Trump by an average of less than 3 percentage points right before the 2016 conventions.

New Yahoo News/YouGov poll shows Biden ahead of Trump by 11 points among registered voters — his largest lead yet

I just saw where Biden is losing by 4. Maybe it was 40. Given that he's demented and a big zero, adding a zero or two seems appropriate.

I hope the Democrats and my fellow NeverTrumpers don't get complacent. Get out and vote against Trump.

Following the national polls is a recipe for madness.

-Cardinal, a guy who says...and believes...that national polls aren't important, but is totally following the national polls anyway for the same reason we lick our chapped lips even though we know doing so is making the chapped lips worse.

This is what I am talking about, YouGov is reporting a massive lead jump while CNN is reporting the gap is closing.

There's a lot of good stuff here, though:

So far, Harris’s presence on the Democratic ticket appears to have helped Biden. Forty-seven percent of registered voters rate Harris as an “excellent” or “good” choice — significantly more than the number who felt the same about 2016 Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Kaine (35 percent) or 2016 Republican vice presidential nominee Mike Pence (37 percent), according to Gallup.

Instead, more registered voters say Harris is “moderate” (19 percent) than say the same about Trump (15 percent) or Pence (9 percent). A full third (33 percent) consider Biden moderate. Harris’s favorability rating (46 percent) also exceeds Trump’s (42 percent) and Pence’s (40 percent), and registered voters are just as likely to say that Harris is ready for the presidency as Pence (44 percent).

Whether he's up by 11 or up by 4, I'm still perplexed so many people still support Trump.

Why isn't Biden up by 90?

What are people thinking?

YEAH! 170K Covid-19 deaths, what an awesome job by Trump!

YEAH! Shut down the USPS! We need to make sure people can't vote! LOL! MAGA! Stupid LIBS! LOL!

Like, seriously, who are these people?

People who don’t want this country to descend into an anarchist, socialist, conformist, atheistic hellhole where the government dictates how people live every minute of their lives.

And who also realize that Biden is not mentally fit to be the Leader of the Free World.

There's an entire industry dedicated to filling susceptible heads with all sorts of insane paranoid delusions.

Exhibit A, tales of the coming anarchist-slash-conformist oxymorontopia:

People who don’t want this country to descend into an anarchist, socialist, conformist, atheistic hellhole where the government dictates how people live every minute of their lives.

Because there's an ideological shift in nearly half the country toward right wing authoritarianism and a state run mouthpiece in the form of Fox News. Little things like an out-of-control pandemic, an imploded economy and an increasingly dismantled postal service aren't going to cut through those.

I'll bet you're one of those people who a sewed a yellow star onto your mask.

There are reports that Biden and Harris are calling for a mandate for all citizens to wear masks even while outdoors. Meaning while you're jogging, exercising, etc.

Orwellian.

CNN has Biden up by 4.

I thought CNN was Fake News to Republicans?

ABC, NBC, FOX, CBS, and NPR all have Biden up from 7 - 11 points. CNN has 4. Its an outlier. The truth probably lies around 7-9 points.

Lol you conveniently left out Emerson which has Biden +4, Zogby which has Biden +3, and Hill/Harris which has Biden +4. And CNBC and Rasmussen which have Biden +6.

CNN is NOT an outlier.

That’s all nonsense. Biden is not an anarchist, or a socialist, and he’s a Catholic.

What has already ACTUALLY happened is that we have descended into a country where unemployment is at record highs, GDP has dropped at record rates, we are looking at a total of hundreds of thousands people dying soon and people are not able to live lives anywhere near normal. A hellhole is what Trump has dragged us down into. As Trump said “It is what it is.”

Meanwhile countries with good leadership have minimal damage to their economies and a fraction of the population adjusted deaths that we do. Now their daily death rates can be counted on their fingers while we are still looking at a thousand per day.

Biden had the mental fitness to point the way to COVID-19 success that other countries followed way back in January when he said “My policies will always uphold science, not fiction.” At the same time Biden also told us why Trump would fail “Trump’s demonstrated failures of judgment and his repeated rejection of science make him the worst possible person to lead our country through a global health challenge.” Truer words were never spoken. Way back in January Biden had the foresight to know that Trump would fail the country miserably.

Trump doesn’t even have the mental fitness to articulate his plan for a second term. Here’s his vision for America:
e72f9647803c5ce469cce39dcd0b7a07.jpg

Does that sound like someone who is fit to be the leader of the free world?

President Trump claimed back in April that "when somebody is the president of the United States" their "authority is total." “The federal government has absolute power," Trump added. "As to whether I'll use that power, we'll see."

He told us how he thinks, sounds kind of authoritarian to me.

The basis for a mask mandate is the same as for a speed limit. Both are a restriction on “freedom” but governments mandate them for the common good because they save lives by constraining the actions of the minority of irresponsible people who endanger the majority.

Biden has the mental capacity to understand the limits of presidential power by saying the Governors need to do the mandate and what he needs to do to get things done. Trump as mister my “authority is total” is clueless.
