You Just Never Know About Some 'Conservatives'.

Globalism has benefited the middle and upper classes in this country tremendously and has been a major source of its economic growth. If globalization is halted, and more nationalist policies are pursued like bringing back manufacturing jobs, the entire US economy would be absolutely devastated.
This is utter nonsense.

Globalism moved manufacturing jobs OUT of the US. Who benefited? The middle and upper class who lost their jobs? I don't think so. Likewise, when manufacturing makes a comeback in the US, the economy surges because there are more good paying jobs for more of the middle and upper classes.

You seem to be employing "1984" groupthink. You may convince some useful idiots, but it won't work with me.

It is true, however, the non-college educated, low-skilled folks like the Trump base has been hurt by this. I’m not saying this in a pejorative way. They really have been hurt by this loss of manufacturing and other low- skilled jobs, and it’s understandable why they would hate it so much.

So what to do about all this?

Just like most such issues, the answers are of course not easy or simple. But the hard truth is that the United States economy does not need low skilled jobs anymore. It can much more efficiently outsource those jobs. It needs an educated, highly skilled workforce. That’s why Hillary Clinton’s plan in 2016 was to help America make that transition. But the Trump base, which prides itself so much on being hard-working, refused, because I guess retraining would be too hard to do. They may be hard-working, but not THAT hard-working. They want to keep sticking with their low skilled jobs and obsolete technologies like coal. But is that really what’s good for the nation in the long run? Do you really think that’s the approach that will keep the American economy competitive in this new world and “make America great again”?
Who says manufacturing jobs are "low skilled"?

Who says manufacturing jobs are "low skilled"?

Who do you think pays for those higher wages? The customers at the store, which are you and me.

Most manufacturing jobs are low skilled. Those are not the kind that really help the economy.

Almost all the loss in manufacturing jobs have been among the low skilled manufacturing labor force. The job openings for the high skilled labor force domestically has actually increased, and there are lots of open job positions there which are going unfilled because of the lack of skilled labor. That’s actually slowing down and hurting the economy of the country.

“The relative decline in the number of low-skill workers, meanwhile, is a consequence of the adoption of information and other computer-related technologies and management practices, along with increasing competition from international producers. Total manufacturing jobs in nonmetro areas fell between 1990 and 2000, but low-skill jobs accounted for virtually all of the loss. Low-skill employment also fell in absolute terms in business serv- ices, health care, and public administration, even as total employment in those industries grew. “

But the Trump base doesn’t care. They just want to keep doing the same low skilled labor and going after the osame obsolete technology like coal that their parents and grandparents did. That’s what they think made America great, and they think going back to that will make America Great Again. It won’t. It’s a sure fire formula for economic stagnation and falling behind the rest of the world. This is the 21st-century, it’s a whole different ball game. The world is playing chess, and they want to keep playing checkers.

Though I consider myself neither liberal nor conservative, I do listen from time to time to 'conservative' AM radio talk shows. One host this morning was castigating the present administration over the state of the economy. He said, paraphrased, that the present administration doesn't know what they're doing in terms of controlling the economy.

Now, I do listen carefully. And that made me wonder what type of government he espoused that would be in control of the economy. There are a few but, as far as I know, that of the United States of America is not granted power under the constitution to be one of them.

Regards, stay safe 'n well 'n remember the Big 5.

Trump did a great job with the economy -- it was posting record breaking numbers across the board.

All Biden did was spend on freebies, which drove up inflation, which he now won't take responsibility for. He and his Dems are displaying Venezuelan tendencies.

Not sure why the OP expected anything different than the same stupid talking points from the right: socialists, want to destroy the economy, wreck the fossil fuel industry, bankrupt America, turn communist, blah, blah blah.

Literally so freaking stupid. There hasn't been an original thought from anyone on the right since COVFEFE and all the other ramblings Trump made that were original only because they didn't exist in the English language.

Nah, the real issue is that liberals don't understand the weakness of socialism in a free society, that hugracious money giveaways cause inflation, and that there is no near term substitute for fossil fuels. The last two of Bucky's ramblings slipped out as liberal goals not yet accomplished. Apparently, liberal positions are "original" to him, but they are the same old tired liberal talking points.

Hi, sanman.

Thank you for taking time to respond to my post.

That commentator is wrong. The Biden pukes know exactly what they are doing regarding the economy. The problem is, they want to torpedo the economy...and they are doing just that.

Now. Trump had the right idea: the government gets out of the way and removes roadblocks so the economy can do what it will...which is grow.
Sure. At the expense of clean air, clean water, chemical pollution and a myriad of other bad things that usually take a generation to clean up. No thanks. I think this is what democrats are working to improve.

Lol....even NPR has content too much for you? Just how extreme left are you?
It would just be a waste of time to hear exactly the same Shit we hear here all day every day.

Exactly. Word for word.

Because human being begin to believe things they hear over and over and over again.

Whether those things are true or not doesn’t matter.

You know .. the kind of stuff that makes life have value.

Oooo, a Clintonista still trying to convince us the Hildabeest was a viable candidate.

Yes- we need a smart, experienced, worldly candidate- like someone who wants to nuke hurricanes and shove bleach up everyone’s behind in a deadly pandemic .

Now you are trying to convince us she was better. She wasn't, and the election said that.

sigh...

Another one who doesn't know what a Globalist is. Do a forum search for definition globalist w/my name. Your questions will be answered.

I'm serious. I'm ****ing tired of educating people who are too lazy to educate themselves.

What is exactly a Globalist in your own words? Also are you going to start putting ((())) around the names of Globalists from now on?

I disagree with Mycroft about everything, but I think dismissing supposed low skill workers as unimportant is a bad idea. Bezos wouldn't have a delivery business if not for the workers in the warehouses doing the actual work, he needs workers and they deserve to be treated well.

Now you are trying to convince us she was better. She wasn't, and the election said that.

Are you saying the elections always decide who the better person was?

They are important, just not as important as in the past. I would not hold the entire US economy back because we value our low skilled workers. I think a much better idea is this:

Of course not, but in this case yes. Just check what Biden is doing.

What's Biden doing? He is getting us out of the pandemic, and dealing with the ensuing supply chain issues as well as anyone could.

He is also repairing badly damaged relations with our NATO allies in the face of an international crisis quite admirably. Most of the country, as well as the world, agrees:

Fortunately, he is no longer recommending nuking hurricanes and sticking bleach up our behinds and horse dewormer down our throats in the middle of a deadly pandemic.

Say it with me now: Thank you Mr. President for being sane and competent.

Dang! That's TWO BS cards I have had to throw...

Lay off of Fox News. They obviously never talked about all of the ridiculous tariffs that Trump instituted during his presidency.

That is not "government gets out of the way" and it's obviously contrary to decades of Republican "free trade" philosophy.

You simply know nothing.

Your spittle spraying diatribe say you are the one that "knows nothing". Calm down. Act nice.

I don't watch Fox News.

Trump's tariffs are irrelevant. We are talking about Biden's pukes.

But it sure sounds like you are parroting your left wing Trump hater multimedia echo chamber. And that means that YOU simply know nothing.

Dang! That's TWO BS cards I have had to throw...

Oh you have much more than that: all sorts of BS like the unanimous consensus of every single scientific organization on the planet on climate change, or all the medical and scientific organizations' recommendations on the pandemic, etc...
