You can buy guns but not sex toys in this Georgia town

You missed the point, too.

Not surprised.

No I did not. You seemed to be comfortable about freedom of sexual choice yet despise gun owners - I guess if it is a "fetish" you like, it okay. Hmm

Not so small a town. I don't want my kids exposed to cigarettes but its the price you pay in a free society. Who gets to define what "smut" is anyway. Frankly its about personal responsibility. You don't want your kids exposed teach them your values and keep them away. How many sex shops can a town of 100,000 support? If a significant majority truly are against it and don't patronize the place it probably won't be in business very long.

I think its a big deal. (get it) We still have blue laws here in NY related to liquor sales. Why should I be forced to wait until 12 to buy beer for Sunday football? Or be unable to order a mimosa at Sunday brunch? Fortunately here in NY the time is now 10am but its still ridiculous. Government shouldn't be in the business of imposing religious values on its constituency.

You make some valid points.

Dude. Like kids care about that these days. Teenagers look at sex toys and laugh, because they've already seen them a thousand times online.

what teenagers look at sex toys? this is the internet age, they look at porn. before the internet age they would steal their parents porn mags and share them, or even rip them apart page by page so all your freinds could view porn at the same time in different bathroms.

Teenagers do not view toys, their hands and fingers work too well, older people view toys, when their sex life gets dull and they look at ways to spice it up.

I have no clue why anyone would want to buy their sex toys at a store. The products are overpriced, the selection is rarely good, and the sales ladies tend to be all up in your grill.

And they get all uppity when you simply ask if you can try it before you buy it.

We have one store that allows you to test some of the vibes, but this is not common. I used to say the same things about books...... that I want to sit with it for a spell in an overstuffed chair, preferably with a coffee by my side as I do it, before I plunk down money, but I have learned to buy off of reviews only.

Amazon won.

I inherited "Killing Kennedy" ....reading it now.

And they get all uppity when you simply ask if you can try it before you buy it.
We have a store called Lovers, Used to be called Lovers Package, no I dont know what that was all about nor apparently did anyone else which is why the name was changed....full of young twenty something over eager overly concerned Tracy Flick types. GOD, asking tons of annoying questions, trying to quiz me, for instance acting all concerned for the health of my lady if I actually bought the butt plug I was looking at. "Now it is very important that you dont use too much numbing agent, because...."

I did not ask for any help, in fact I had asked her nicely to go away twice before she chimed in uninvited with that bit of "education".

Ya, I dont shop at any of their stores now.

NOTE: I am a little bit sorry for stomping on your funny. In my defense they seriously ticked me off.

Why, at comic book an candy stores, of course!

Adult bookstores (or whatever they're called where you're from) have strict rules (if not state laws) prohibiting minors from entering. Or in other venues they can be in 18 and above only sections.

This isn't rocket science, sport. Why do you hate freedom?

Head shops, x-rated book stores and lingerie stores 'round here.

I don't see how guns and sex toys are comparable objects.

Edit: Holy ****, that's a lot bigger than I was expecting. Sandy Springs is not what I would call a "town."

Don't Google that for me, I can do it myself. See?

Anyway, I can't imagine why a city with nearly 100,000 residents would ban sex toys - I was expecting some super-tiny little town like Oak Park or Santa Claus to be the focus of this thread.

Re-edit: Okay, so it just barely falls short of the population definition of a city by about 230 people. In 2013. I'm going to go ahead and start calling Sandy Springs a city.

My take is that person who buys a gun is a lot smarter than one who buys a sex toy.

WHAT?

Do you not correctly appreciate the Joys of Sex?

"Correctly" being my admitted bias, but dang I feel like Ann Landers or whoever it was that famously said "HONEY, if sex is not a huge part of your marriage then you are doing it wrong"(paraphrase)...... and yes I am exactly that lazy that I was not willing to do the research on this quote for ya'll. I spent the day doing HOA work, and you will understand when I tell you that I am just now just a little disappointed in humanity.

A federal appeals court has upheld a ban on the sale of sex toys in Sandy Springs, Georgia — but acknowledged the decision probably won’t stand, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

A panel of three judges on the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta made the decision, saying they had no choice but to follow a 2004 case precedent.

But they believe that decision, a similar ban in Alabama, was wrong. They encouraged plaintiffs in the case to continue pursuing it in order to set a new precedent.

AJC reports the new take on the matter reflects the fact that last year’s Obergefell ruling legalizing same-sex marriage in all 50 states has pushed courts further away from making decisions dictating what people do in their bedrooms.

Sandy Springs passed the controversial ordinance in 2009 — which prompted MSNBC to observe that while Georgians can carry guns around almost anywhere, they can’t buy sex toys without a doctor’s note.

Per the ordinance, “device designed or marketed as useful primarily for the stimulation of human genital organs is obscene material.”

Two residents sued over the ordinance, calling it unconstitutional.

I have read the bill of rights hundreds of times and I never saw this amendment

The right to lubricate and insert dildos shall not be infringed.

My take is that person who buys a gun is a lot smarter than one who buys a sex toy.

Saying the same poorly worded sentence again does not improve matters.

Could you maybe rephrase? Why do you feel this way? The most important reason you came to this conclusion.... would you be so kind as to submit this to us for our appraisal?

Thank You.

that sort of depends on the circumstances doesn't it?

One would think.

I like Micky. I hope he shows up with an explanation and an argument.

Sex is not as good as shootin guns are fightin words so far as I am concerned, though I have to say at the front that I have never touched a gun.

My boy owns an AR-15 modified and loves it, my wife is 26 years USA, so of course she has shot a lot. Been shot at and rock and rolled in her HUMVEE a lot too, but that is a different story......

Do I get points here for proximity?

Spect not

I never said anything about guns being better than sex. I'm talking about what a person wants, vs. what a person needs and in that respect buying a gun over a sex toy would be my choice. I've never purchased, needed or used a sex toy. I certainly can't say that about guns. ;)
That's my personal opinion, based on personal experience which has no bearing on what anyone else wants to do.
None of my women have ever complained and satisfaction..... is what I brought to them.

you should be able to buy both?

Sure, it's a free country.

You are doing it wrong.

You are the guy who has driven a Ford Fiesta all his life, and says "it gets me from point A to point B, what more is there?" when you are talking to a guy who has driven Lamborghini's for the last few decades.

Look, I like you man, but great erotic play requires a few tools to get the job done right.

Ironic isn't it ? Its deemed obscene to 'stimulate human genital organ's' with sex toys but not if its done using firearms ! :lamo

Only in the US is giving your kiddies guns OK yet exposing them to the sight of someone naked is deemed unacceptable so I guess you must be right ! :)

Yes, and I have long had an issue with the fact that hollywood can hack away at unlimited body counts in slow mo and no one cares, but show one human ***** then watch everyone freak out.

We be some STUPID people.

I am ashamed.

I've lived over there and you certainly have some perverse sensibilities when it comes to perceptions of sex an violence. I remember the uproar when Janet Jackson flashed a nipple at the Superbowl in 2004 ( it virtually ended her career) yet statistically two preteens would have shot either themselves or each other on that same day and that is just accepted like water off a ducks back

Go figure :(
